Chris reveals his Draft rankings for the controversial RB position, and he and Paul take a few more of your draft questions. #NBCSports #NFL #ChrisSimms
(1:40) RB Scouting Process - Would Chris draft an RB in Round 1 anymore? How would Chris re-rank last year's RB class?
(12:00) RB #5 Javonte Williams (North Carolina) - "A ball of power."
(18:35) RB #4 Najee Harris (Alabama) - "He's a tough eval for me. I don't think he's a slam dunk #1 RB."
(28:10) RB #3 Javian Hawkins (Louisville) - "He's small. That's where the negatives stop."
(34:45) RB #2 Michael Carter (North Carolina) - "Nobody tackles him 1-on-1."
(44:30) RB #1 Travis Etienne (Clemson) - "The most complete RB in the draft."
(55:00) Honorable mentions - Chuba Hubbard (Oklahoma State), Trey Sermon (Ohio State), Kenneth Gainwell (Memphis), Rhamondre Stevenson (Oklahoma)
(1:08:45) #AskMeAnything - Is Mac Jones worth trading up for? How does Justin Fields compare to Lamar Jackson? Should the Bengals draft Penei Sewell or Ja'Marr Chase? And Chris tweaks his Aaron Rodgers song.

I think that taking a running back in the first round also puts pressure on the team to make the pick worth it and they end up running those guys into the ground.

Also the cost of that pick depending on where he goes can make a top paid running back. Also no matter how good that back is he really can't move the neddle too muc

I'm glad my team isn't picking a qb, but man "the Mac Jones to 3 is a bad pick" talk is such a bad take. Accuracy and decision making are often overlooked for strong arm and fast qbs that can make plays with their feet. Realistically you can win with both, but the guys winning superbowls are the guys like Mannings, Brady, Brees...HOF's sure, but then guys that recently got there and lost, Ryan, Garopollo.

When you see the discipline with which Jets' GM Joe Douglas waited and waited 'til Round 4 to select Simms' #2 overall Michael Carter with the 107th pick, nabbing Elijah Moore (!) with their pick in the 2nd! Add in Zach Wilson and Alijah Vera-Tucker and this could prove one of the all-time top 4 selections in a long, long time.

Najee Harris's best comp for me is Leveon Bell. Lacks top end speed but has great feet, runs with patience, doesn't take a lot of big hits, and has excellent value in the pass game. Not saying he will be that good, but there is precedence for big guys who are shiftier than powerful without great speed to excel in the NFL.

I agree with you. I believe he's no doubt a top-3 RB in this class. I like him better than Javonte Williams and Michael Carter. If it weren't for his circumstances, he would no doubt be in the group with Etienne and Harris. Go watch Hill's game vs Southern Miss. He made the best run of any RB in this class with 2:21 left in the 1st Quarter. He shows nearly every skill needed for the position (vision, cutting ability, power, balance and explosiveness) on this one run. It hurt Hill that he played for a BAD Mississippi State team in the toughest division in college football. He's a rocked-up RB with GREAT balance, good power, good pass-catching ability, pretty good burst, EXCELLENT jump-cut ability and he has good enough speed. People act like he busted out this year, but he was still able to catch 23passes for over 200 yards in 3 games. I believe he has the best chance of any RB in this class to turn into a mid-round star.

Javonte Williams has a lot of Kareem Hunt's game. Similar size, similar run style, similar speed, same vert, more reps, much better 3-cone and short shuttle. I think he's a player. We'll see. I think worst case he's another David Montgomery. Williams creates too much, has too much quickness in the hole, has vision that's too strong to put him this far down, IMO. Ask FSU and Miami how much power this kid has, lol. I feel like I watched an entirely different dude than Simms here. Respect his knowledge, but I just don't see it. That said, 100% agree that Carter is a very compelling prospect in the NFL. His jump cut is reminiscent of Cook's.

I don't think you take him in the first round, but then again I don't think you take any RB in the first round this year. That said, I think shitting all over him just because he isn't fast is an overreaction. I think 40 times in RBs are pretty overrated these days. Your avg/carry is barely affected by pure speed, it's way more about vision, shiftiness, and ability to break tackles. You'd rather have a guy that never breaks a big run over 40 yards because he gets chased down but can always get you that 3rd and 3. Wayyy more valuable, that consistency. Also he's a great receiver and good pass protector so even though he's not going to break Chris Johnson type runs he is one of the more valuable backs in the draft. I think Chris Simms does have him too low (although again I reiterate that I would not take him or any RB 1st round), I'd rather have him than most of these backs. Oh I forgot to mention, he never fumbles.

I don´t know why Chris keeps talking about Fields as if he´s just a physical athletic runner type QB. The guy is living in the pocket basically and is the most accurate on deep throws in the draft. I would normally not listen to people about athletic qbs because they stereotype athletic qbs as those who can't throw. However, he did predict that lamar and allen would the best qbs of their draft and Burrow, Herbert for theirs. He even said that lamar had zero question marks coming out of the draft( both passing and rushing)! I think Simms sees some significant flaw in fields that we can't see.

Antonio Gibson was 2nd fiddle behind him but wft he rushed for 850 and 350 yd receiving . This draft has a lot of freshman and true freshman like this who dominated the position has older players come into nfl have success but was second or a 3rd wheel like dk Metcalf was to Elijah Moore. We can look at this class next to older nfl elite and kniw side by side Kennethor Elijah or chase was dominate over them.

@jamm7797

@@Steve_643 you're wrong and heres why. If you watch bell's college tape, you can clearly see power in his runs. He will rarely get tackled down on the first point of contact. If you watched najee's tape, its different. He will either try to juke, hurdle or something, but you can rarely see him trucking someone or get outta a tackle from a linebacker or d line using power. Now to Leveon's nfl tape, he clearly utilized his agility, patience, and elusiveness but those three were compiled with the power factor. Once leveon goes to the second level, he uses his power to get extra few yards. I think najee will be able to gain those 3-5 yards from a run using his agility, patience, and elusiveness, but once he gets to the second level he won't outperform other rbs who have superior speed and power.

Before listening I'll say right now I like Javonte Williams over ETN :) I may eat my words, but hey, it's not group think. I just like his ability to break tackles, has burst through the hole even though he's not a long speed guy, but that's not his game. Plus he is good in the receiving game. Williams is a true 3 down back and I don't think ETN is (size). I think ETN lacks patience, vision and wiggle and is a straight line guy. Now ETN will be great in the passing game and has value value in PPR leagues, but I just like Williams more. Those holes in the NFL are going to be a lot smaller and those lanes ETN had in college may not be there in the NFL. This will have more of effect on ETN than Williams IMO.

When he got to #3 I just threw my arms up. Hawkins? He's a runt and could end up being a day 3 pick. I know your rankings are NOT for fantasy football, but Hawkins will never be startable for fantasy teams. He's a gadget guy only. You seem to favor the small / fast guys and do not like the bigger RBs. You drastically overlook power and tackle breaking ability. Most games are won moving the chains, not with the once a year 70 yard runs. ETN will not find the holes he had in college and doesn't have the wiggle or power to create. Hawkins will never get more than 4 or 5 carries a game IMO. The one guy you mentioned I love is Carter. His vision is the best in the NFL. His ability to change direction as he gets close to the line of scrimmage is unreal. Go watch Matt Waldman's videos on Carter and you will see what I mean. He also is very good running routes.

He is a bust if you compare him with other rbs drafted that year. Sony was the only 1st round rb that year besides saquan and he didn't perform up to expectation even when he was in the Pats offense. I would much rather take chubb or ronald jones in the second round

The numbers are the numbers. He didnt bust. He may have been over drafted in comparison, and in hindsight, to other later draft picks but 2000 yards in 22 starts isn't a bust. His playoff run was amazing as well.

@jamm7797 3 жыл бұрын
You guys are saying hes not a bust cuz he was still performing at a level, but thats not what a bust means. For instance, golf was the #1 overall pick and he performed at a level. Sean mcvay was a huge part of his success. But do you call him a bust? If he was a late round 1st, or 2nd or 3rd round pick, then no. But he was the #1 overall and he didn't perform to the potential of a #1 overall pick like andrew luck, peyton manning, etc. then Golf is a bust. Similar situation, michel didn't perform to the level of a 1st round running back, then he's a bust

hopefully this doesn't mean ur saying he's better than etn cuz he's not. etn still had over 90 total yards in a "bad game" and he's a pure consistent back. sermon only showed his part at the end of the year
@MrAaronPink
@MrAaronPink 3 жыл бұрын
@@diegodayzz__5520 Sermon only had a handful of games to prove himself. I do think Sermon runs harder than Etn. 100 percent. We will get to see in the NFL. OSU is known for RBs...and he still set the all time record against a great NW Defense this year. Then after clearly deserving the RB 1 he made Clemson look silly too. Btw it was OSUs 1st time beating clemson. Justin was great but we couldnt have established the pass game without Treys threat in the back field. Just saying he is more special than he was given Credit for. Etn is good but I highly doubt he will be better than Sermon. Unfortuanetly Sermon is at 49ers and its a shared RB roll.

@diegodayzz__5520 3 жыл бұрын
@@MrAaronPink right sermon does run harder cuz he's bigger than etn but doesn't mean he's better, etn has 3 full proved years of pure consistency unlike sermon. You can say sermon runs harder but i can say etn runs better routes, catches better, is WAY faster, forces as many miss tackles or maybe even more, and he's way quicker. And btw sermon did not set the all time record against northwestern ik for fact jaret patterson, melvin gordon, and samaje perine have had 400+ yds game

@MrAaronPink 3 жыл бұрын
@@diegodayzz__5520 all time for OSU buddy. You have your opinion I have mine. We shut Etn down. And Sermon was a beast vs you guys. Maybe Etn should switch to WR since his route running is so great.

@@MrAaronPink bruh this is like saying cmc should switch to receiver even tho he clearly can do both, run and catch aswell as Etn🤦‍♂️ its just a plus that you add to your game, makes you more useful and versatile as a player and nfl offenses love that. Also im not a clemson fan lmao so i ain't even biased bout this and its funny how you guys "shut down" etn yet he still has 90+ yards in his "down game".

Derrick Henry won't make this list. Yes 6ft over powerbacks is the comeback that nfl is doing yes they get going at 26 when all these rb will be burnt up. These guys are realy 3rd dn backs. Nfl is destroying them all cause rb qb need these tiny backs. They can make them last 6 yrs if they limit snaps to 3rd dn.
