I became a barber 4 years ago at age 42

I’m 32 I went to Cali and visited my cousins barber shop and enjoyed the atmosphere. I came back to Florida and looked into cosmetology/barbering. Because of watching your videos and my cousin I start school tomorrow.

I'm 25 and been cutting full time for 4 years now, before cutting I was struggling, I dropped out of school and decided to make some money, but was always unhappy sooner or later. I remember going to get my haircut was always exciting, slowly i started lining myself up and cutting up family, and I just knew this was it. I moved out to Mexico where I'm originally from and I gotta say, I'm the happiest I've ever been today thanks to barbering, it's amazing in the sense that like you mention here, you define yourself and your worth depending on how you choose to sell yourself, for the longest I was always searching for approval but then I began to believe in my work and doing just what felt right and of course always above all being the most professional I can at all times and damn I love barbering. I’m 42 wanted to be a barber for 10 years now, but couldn’t do to having to support my kids and family. Things changed financially due to me putting a little money back per paycheck. Now I’m 4 weeks into barber school and soaking up as much information as I can to be the best I can possibly be as a barber and person. I leave out at 730 in the morning and get home at 930 at night due to school and work. I’ve got my mind made up to succeed for my family and myself. Thanks Chris for being a giver and loving the industry like you do.

It’s not too late, I got licensed at 37 and now 3 years later I own my own shop and just got a house from my business tax return. You can do it guys!

It’s definitely much harder to make that transition from a 9-5 with a family and bills into barbering. I'm about to turn 30 and I've done years of dead end jobs, being around salons growing up my whole life I've always had a love for it but finally decided to make the jump and go to school and it's the happiest I've been in a long time even with working and doing school being busy 80hrs a week. I know it will pay off, I see so many people in school that don't have passion and are not motivated and it just motivates me more. I'm gonna stay on my grind on and off the clock. It's not a job it's a lifestyle and you gotta be in love with it to do it right 💯✂️💈💪 seeing people like bossio motivates me and keeps me going everyday. I can never wait to get off my 9-5 to go back to school and cut more hair, it feels more like a vacation than work to me so I know it's meant to be

What’s up Chris thank you 4 this vid. It really hit home. First off congrats on mom n sis moving back home, God bless mom. Second, this video really hit home for me bro. I think u remember me I’m the Philly Popo / inspiring barber, we met at the look n learn, when I modeled my dome for the class. Well I’m still doing the PoPo thing which I CANNOT STAND. But I’m still cutting in my basement set up, getting ready to cut now in fact. Bro I still cannot go to barber school due to my work schedule. I guess I’m gonna have to wait till I retire at 53 which will be about five years from now then I’ll be able to go tomorrow school because my wife does not drive and the only means of transportation she has seizure issues therefore I always have to be around so that’s why I can’t switch to working overnights to then go to school during the day because I always have to be around. Cutting hair is the only thing I do that does not feel like work. And I feel devastated in some form that it seems like I will never be able to get my license because there are no Barber schools in Philadelphia the closest one to me is premier which looks amazing but it’s just a bit too far. Well I guess it’ll just be basement come for me man.

Been a Bar/Cosmetologist for 30+ years and went from Great Clips to a Barber shop, 3 years ago. You lit the fuse that rocketed me outta there. I agree with you and even now at 56, I can see possibilities for growth. The ONLY time its too late, is when you die and even then, is the beginning of a new adventure. Great video, Mr. Bossio.

Cheers Chris I started barbering last year during the first pandemic I'm now an apprentice at a popular local shop making my way cut by cut till I can get get own chair.

The number one thing I wish I did was act on the advice I was given. So many years went by me just standing around listening and reading and trying to get better but I never acted on the advice and as soon as I did my world changed

This hits with the age I’m 32 and learning now and always wanted to do it but for one reason or another I never did it now I’m looking for a good school in my area

I was in my 50's when I went for my barbers license. My biggest fear was. Could I grasp the academic portion. As it is a fast pace school. New material today. Explained day two. Test day three. But I maintained a 97.4 grade point average. This journey has been fantastic. My clients willingly pay $40 a cut. Plus tip. (I feel so blessed to have this skill and talent.) Peace bro.
