Lol dude is 40x platinum and one of 20 artists to go Diamond. He’s a legend. And one of the best in the industry. Really damn funny how people were mad he won over Kendrick but they never even listened to him. A bit hypocritical. Macklemore is an independent rapper from Seattle. His name is Ben. He has no record deal, no label. He blew up on his own movement. He’s amazing.

The reason you don’t hear much about him anymore cuz after he won a bunch of rap Grammys hip hop community abandon him, even tho they didn’t really listen to him. He still makes music, and there are artist like DJ Premier and Talib Kweli who promote his work. They love Macklemore. But when he won over Kendrick a buncha people were mad another white dude won.

the Kendrick Lamar(not the artist ) groupies been kinda been running careers Macklemore and lupe fiasco just faded away due to the politics in the hip hop game

The beats that Ryan Lewis did on This song, Thrift Shop & Downtown are Classics! Incredibly catchy, but still interesting and full of variations.

Ray Dalton blew up in his own right from this song. Dude got contacted on FB by Ryan Lewis for this hook and aint stopped since. Saw a clip of him touring in Germany and everyone in the crowd knew his song. Thats dope.

Probably dont hear them much now, because Ben & Ryan are independent from a Record Label. They do everything themselves, no middleman taking a cut for themselves off the back of the artist. Back in the day Prince had to fight the Record Label he had signed with, for the right to use his own name and likeness. Prince changed his name to a symbol and released his music independently, warning other Artists about the music industry. Not many listened to Prince and found themselves fighting for their rights. Ben & Ryan took note and are happier for it.

he was more well known in the 2010s, at least that's about when I was introduced to him. I've seen him in person coming through the Seattle Airport a few times, as he's from there.
