Lots of good details to spot going during today’s race. Was interesting wondering if Roglic had good form for day one. He left us guessing a little about his fitness on that time bonus sprint but after the last KOM we can see that he’s good. Now we still don’t know about his teammates though. 🤔😳👊🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋

Evanepoel has shown that he can perform at the highest level for 1 week tours - it will be a different story when he has to fight with the big guns at the Giro & TDF. These races are usually decided in the 3rd week. 1 Vuelta win is not enough - waiting for him to prove me wrong.

Come on. That’s ridiculous! How could cycling channel not show the most important detail of today’s race. One that we have all literally been waiting for since Roglic left Visma for Bora and made it clear that come July all four riders will be there with 100% plan to win it and today is literally the first time that two of them meet up. 😳🤔🤷🏼‍♂️🦋

‘I’m in the front group’ is what I told myself when I hopped on the back of Amanda Cokers group ride. I could only stay attached for about 10 seconds going full gas on my mountain bike but I still tell myself I was part of a world record lol!

Nice of you to correctly write Roglič’s name. He (and bora) had some contact few k before a climb and lost position and group formation so he couldn’t get to the front. But legs are there.

When Remco attacks for no reason, is he showing his dominance or immaturity? Maybe both. Seems he'd be more successful if he can get his immaturity in check.

I was thinking the same. Primoz knows this and takes advantage of it. Remco has and engine but not a finisher like primoz. Cover him and then out sprint him. Really wanted to see how this played out in Italy last year but the corrupt cycling heads were still in covid scam mode.

A very good question. He can probably get away with in a one week stage race and it could even be argued to make sense to try, but he has to rein himself in at the Tour or Jonas et al. will slaughter him in week 2 and 3.

Chris i love your coverage. Perhaps in addition to full gas you could say très vite, “warp speed”, “max effort”, ftp max”, “like chris boardman doing 4 km pursuit”. Etc etc. maybe fans can come up with much better suggestions..i know these are weak

Me too at first but I think the finish was a bit steeper than it looked on tv the first time I wanted it. They were going so fast that it made it seemed flatter. If you watch Sam Bennet though he was dropped off super close the front maybe 5th position just at the finish with 800 meters to go and then he blew up spectacularly and dropped to 20th. Must had been a bit steep. 🤔😳💥💣🦋

Stuyven's determination to stay at the wheel of the 1 st van Dijke may have cost Pedersen the win now he came at the front too soon. Had he let both van Dijke's in front he could launch Pedersen later giving him a better chance of winning .

I recall the Cian Uijtdebroeks story in the news last year of him joining Jumbo LAB and was likely going to be the GC rider at the Giro. I haven't heard a peep in the news since then. Has he raced yet this year? I briefly searched online before asking this question and did not find anything but may have missed it.

He starts his season today in Tirreno A as far as I know. He has talked about "following" Jonas around in races until the Giro. Cian will be Robin to Vingegaard's Batman for a large part of this year, so he can observe and learn.

He rode Gran Camino with Jonas and now started Tirreno again with Jonas. He'll get freedom to go for GC in the Giro, but unless he eg. fights for a podium, he'll be mostly on his own, with most of the remainder of the team getting freedom to chase their own goals.

I always have a feeling Primoz is a dreamer.. not paying attention. Position, falls, etc. Now compare that to Jonas I believe he's sharp (maybe even too sharp). Oh and Evenepoel is eager (too eager, but he gets away with it because he's pretty damn good)
