This Audition was the first time I'd ever heard your name. I was hooked from the guitar intro as that's one of my favorite songs in the world. I am a faithful follower and I eagerly await your name to go up in big lights all over the globe like you were born to do it. ~eagerly awaiting the next release... ~your song / Something like me - is my new #1 favorite song of all time.. The fact that Cowell "guessed" he was a singer was bullcrap as he'd have been very aware of Klaffords success by this point. Not taking away that this was a beautiful rendition but the show made him out to be a brand new singer that hadn't done it before and it's not the case.

I don’t see how you could improve on this version. It’s subtle where it needs to be and powerful in a way the original lacked. Love the original too but I do prefer the heaviness to this version.

It`s actually not that rare. And it is on full display on youtube. It`s always easier to improve on something existing than to create something new. That`s especially true for writing of all kinds (music, lyrics, books, poems). And not all writers were good singers. They did the foundation and better singers build on it. Happens all the time. The only reason this might be somewhat perceived as rare is that most people prefer the version they are used to.
