I've been singing for 8 years, never took any formal lessons (no money) and while I've made a lot of progress over the years, it was always through online vocal coaches and tutorials, and it wasn't until about year 7 that I realized I had been doing a GREAT MANY things wrong, and that's when I discovered that I had no idea what it was supposed to FEEL like when you sing correctly. The feeling, in your throat, in your stomach, your chest, is so unique that if you haven't felt it before it's incredibly difficult to know if you've got it right. When there's no one there to tell you "yes, THAT'S right," you have no real point of reference. Well, you've managed to create a set of lessons that convey your message so well through the medium that is the internet, that in simply 3-4 of your videos I was finally able to figure out what it was meant to feel like when you sing correctly, and since then, in just the last 3 weeks, I've made almost as much progress as in my last 8 years combined. So thank you immensely, and I will most certainly be checking out each and every one of your lessons!

Holy crap! I've been singing for years and always struggled singing in that A4ish break. I just had this gap in my range from a few cents flat of A4 to about B4 before I switched into Rob Halford Painkiller voice at C5. Unfortunately, Rock uses those three inaccessible notes all the time. The exercise in the video was the first time I've been able to repeatedly hit those notes! I'm going to have to practice this a bit more. You're onto something here! This actually works!

16:20 - that is such a problem among male singers namely. They’re taught that chest voice is their domain above all and that they don’t have a real head voice unlike females. They then end up with overshot voices that have too much weight and a capped chest range, with a weak, hooty falsetto.

Chris literally talks in a mixed voice for most of his videos. That would definitely help his ability to produce sound through that area. Similar to Ariana Grandes character in Victorious. She spoke in that character voice for all those episodes, so no doubt that helped make her mixed voice very easy to access.

I've only just felt the differences between a falsetto, head tone, and a chesty mix, not having any vocal training at all, but this video helped me see correlations between the three and how they intersect. This is a HUGE leap from all the practice i've been doing alone! Thanks so much for this!

For singing purposes, the difference between "head voice" and "falsetto" is not so important as (too) many other vocal coaches seem to make. "Head voice" still sounds false somehow, right? It is not where you want to settle if you seek to develop a true, full singing voice (like I did and completely got lost due to the great deal of confusing information). Keep up the good work, I like your way of teaching!

I think this is the best explanation I have seen so far, it really opened my eyes. I thought of head voice vs. falsetto as if head voice was some complete different vocal mode, but actually, it is just head voice with few compression and a lot of air coming through.

It’s three o clock in the morning and I’m in my room high pitch whispering (kinda) repeating whatever this man says and trying to make the same sounds. The rediculous part is it’s actually working. I have been trying to get my head and mixed voice for so long and I feel like it’s gonna happen soon mainly because of this video!!! I’ve been feeling like I’m at a point as a younger baritone that my belting is starting to hit a ceiling in terms of range atleast and if I don’t just want to be yelling in choir I might need to learn something else. Im considering myself intermediate singer and i went to this audition thing for a project. I sing mostly metal/rock and it took many years to get that hard compression work fluently. When the voice teacher in the audition told me to give a falsetto, I simply couldn't do it since my body didnt remember how to do it for not singing pop for so long. I was so frustrated. This video cleared it out for me. Thank you for best instruction I've seen so far of this subject. Also the distortion video was pure gold, I could have learned it easier way I guess :D

So rare to found a vocal coach like this one! I tried to sing a lot of songs including Can You Feel the Love Tonight (Elton John), Perfect (Simple Plan), Yellow (Coldplay), Decode (Paramore), Let You Go (Jason Walker), etc.. but only end up making an instrumental of my own cause it's almost impossible to sing along with them (otherwise, i'd resort to falsetto all the time which would sound shit) I'm a male yet i only find the female key instrumentals/accompaniments and a lower pitch comfortable for me to sing.. Male voices of original songs are so high so i compose/make my own instrumentals instead in a higher/female key and sing with head voice most of the time.. The only original songs i could sing along to without the need to change the pitch is Little Things (One Direction), Chasing Cars (Snow Patrol), Hallelujah (Jeff Buckley), Bad Day (Daniel Powter), Wrapper In Your Arms (Flyleaf) etc.. (these songs force me to go head voice and chest voice most of the time)

Singing reminds me of some of the engineering courses I used to take - lots of equations to memorize - really complicated. But if you actually understand what's going on, what is really going on within the system, you can derive the equations yourself without having to memorize all the equations. This is what Chris has accomplished. Chris really pulls it together with his explanations and demonstrations, laying the foundation in easy-to-understand terms that can be derived and applied for use across all the various voices. I have studied some other singing courses, but Chris' approach is really well presented and unique, as is the production quality of his videos.

This is the first video of yours that I've watched and you, my friend, are the real deal. I've been watching youtube vocal coaches for a number of years (never been formally trained) and you've taught and demonstrated more in this one video than any other video I've seen so far. And your not charging for all this information...really nice.

Solid! Finally a comprehensive explanation.

There was a time when I usually listened to Sonata Arctica. I really liked the high vocals and started figuring out how to imitate that. Eventually, a few years ago I could sing G5 and higher. I stopped practicing it (even had an operation)... From last year I was focusing on my chest voice and the smooth transition when going higher. Noticed that although I improved, now I can't remember how to hit even E5 properly. So, thank you for the information, this will help me to remember and become even better.
