Easy Way To Draw The Planes of the Head For Beginners

This new version of the front planes of the head for beginners is an answer to my more advanced front planes drawing video that I released a while back, and I am indebted to and inspired by the amazing Zin Lim from whom I learned this method of blocking in the planes of the face.
This more straight forward simplified method gets you just what you need to get started drawing solid looking portraits. Of course there is more work to be done, but without this foundational skill you could end up spinning your wheels for a long time.

The positioning of the eye on the side view helped remind me about thinking in space. I was thinking he’d add it closer to the edge but then realised of course it’s recessed. Little reminders like that make a huge difference to inventive design. Though obviously using reference helps remind you to.

Looks like I also go through the same sort of thing with the ear. The height is right on point, it's the width difference from the side plane that seems identical to the front view. It is challenging to master this from various point of views with all the different foldings and ridges it has.

Hi! Honestly, this is the first of your videos that I have watched. Personally, this is what I actually needed to watch. Realizing plenty of things and have my inspirations in drawing back to life. And I want to thank you for if it wasn't for this video I might not be able to remember that doing a sketch on an piece of paper and just making yourself grow, getting loose, and remembering mistakes while actually enjoying is the best way to learn. Rather than doing a lot of artwork with pressure and struggle. Love lots!
