The M2 cap finial design looks to be stylized yin-yang cats.

This M2 is really nice, I'll buy a brown one for me. I like when Chinese manufacturers use original designs.

I love my M2 in green! Mine came in a silver tin inside a cardboard box. I couldn’t decide between the Kaweco sport and M2, went with the M2 and picked up a Kaweco mechanical pencil.

Another nice review Chris, I loved the highlighting between the 2 models. I also have a Midnight Blue M2 with a Fine nib that has been a solid and consistent performer since the day it arrived. I just may get the gray one!

Mine both arrived at last. Fun to switch the sections and caps between models and colors. All are compatible across the two models. I love that.

Thanks for this review! I have and constantly use both the M1 (in teal tint with a F nib) and the M2 (in umber tint with an EF nib). They are both very smooth reliable writers with no issues, including no drying out. Like you, I lean a bit to the M2 because its shape is slightly more comfortable, though both are nice to write with. The converter is smaller - your measurement of its capacity as 0.6 ml shows it’s about half size - but I haven’t had any issues with that either. With F or EF nibs, that much ink goes a long way. I highly recommend these pens. I always have one of them in a trouser pocket, with no problems of any kind. They always write immediately and there has been no leaking. I really like the elegance of the M2, with its clean lines, dark nib and clip and the surprising finial with the black and white cat design. I can hardly wait to see what this excellent pen company comes out with next.

I like the small converter (esp compared to Kaweco's silly converter) - nicely done. They could have made the turn nob smaller and added a bit more ink capacity - that would have been nicer.

I have the M2 & like it immensely! I passed on the M1 because the shape didn't appeal to me, but love the M2, may pick it up in a couple more colors (have the blue currently)

I already have Kaweco Al Sport in broad nib but i have ordered M2 blue in fine nib because of this great review.... Colour and nib is quite tempting :) i haven't purchased recently any Hongdian pen but it's the right time i think to go for one as their nibs have changed recently and provide bounce as well based on reviews....

It is the first time the company has used cats on their finial. I like the spring loaded clips. They should use the design more often. I like the pens. I also like the Alpha pen. It is good to have a choice. Of course it makes the decision more difficult for me. Great review, Chris.

I got an M1 last month, after having some recent good experiences with HongDian... and I like the pen overall, but the nib in mine is terribly scratchy. I don't mind a little feedback, but this was just too much. I tried to pull the nib and replace it with a better one, but it felt like the feed was glued in or something. I'll have to try again... I'd really like the pen with a better nib.

I'm awaiting delivery of the M2 from AliE. I saw it by accident whilst browsing the site, but when I tried to find reviews there was only one (in French IIRC). But I ordered it on a whim and it seems like I made the right decision after watching your review. Thank you.

Mabe Hongdian is trying to compete with Kaweco. I do like the clip. Always good to see one of your reviews, even though I prefer the feel and look of a resin pen. Wow, the line variation is amazing. The medium is making a broad line, with pressure. Will the M2 take a standard cartridge?

Here in Canada the Amazon specs declare they come with “Equipped with a titanium-black fine soft nib”. These nibs must be the same new soft steel nibs available on the HD A6 and HD D1, as already pointed out by Chris on those reviews (I am so intrigued that I already have the A6 and D1 coming). Do I need a pocket pen? If it is with a soft steel nib I will probably look for a good deal as recommended here. Always a very interesting review. Thank you Chris.

I bought the M1 and M2 together, and I was surprised how different the two pens were. The M1 was a bit underwhelming, albeit still of the high HD quality, but the M2 proves a better experience, including the aesthetic, the feel and balance, and a smoother nib. Thanks for this vid.

Do you know if the M2 converter would fit a Kaweco sport?

These nib units are compatible with the #5 Hong Dian nibs sold separately, which gives some more choices. Some people like using fude nibs, for example. I much prefer the M2 to the M1, but I wish they would make the grip less slippery. Horizontal tooling like was done on the A3 section would help. Someone suggested putting washi tape on the section, but I haven’t been bothered enough by the slipperiness to try that yet. I carry an M2 loose in my pants pocket whenever away from home, and it always works perfectly with no hard starts or leaks. Nice nib, too.

Hello Chris. I would like to share an annoying fact. I notice that many of my nibs that i already tuned, write smoothly and pleasant but next morning i hear a sound on paper. I wouldn't say it scratchy but a very bad sound. So i tune them again. Do you have an explanation? I feel very disappointed if i have to tune the nibs over and over again. Shouldn't the tuning be permanent?
