If this stops working then try using the following command:
setupprep.exe /product server
(Setupprep.exe file is in the sources folder)

It started but at 100% I closed it. I'm happy with windows 10 maybe in 2 years later I way installed windows 11 24H2. My command prompt worked wow!.

I can’t believe this worked! I had an old laptop with Windows 10 and it was slow as molasses, but I was able to update it and it seems to be just as fast as when I first purchased it. 😮 I’m amazed. It’s not my primary laptop, but it’s working so well that if anything ever happened to my primary laptop, I’d have a very reliable backup.

Consider upgrading your harddrive to ssd also the ram if the installed ram is low storage capacity before you install windows 11, that's what I do on my old hp laptop and its pretty fast now on bootinh and loading apps

I just upgraded my little Chuwi Minibook running Win 10 Home to Win 11. Not only was it easy and seamless...everything including Chuwi's wonky hardware trackpad and touchscreen work ! Getting Win 10 innstalled was much more trouble. Thanks !!!!!!!

Just by following 2 separate YT video tutorials, I successfully installed Windows 10 Pro in my Macbook Pro 2015 15-inch Retina, then upgraded Windows 10 Pro to Windows 11 Pro. Now I have two fully functional OS in my Macbook.

I can confirm this works great and thank you. No registry hacks, etc. A few caveats though. From about 8:00, the slashes. forward and backward slash. Also, on the bit on "Choose what to keep" 9:28 The only option that worked for me was "Nothing" All the other options kept dropping the installer for some reason. I had backed up the data so no issue there. Thank you. Good knowledge sharing

It took three times before Windows 11 would install. First 2 times it said the version wasn't the right one for my pc. I deleted all the setups twice and went over your instructions again and again. Finally on the third time it worked. Thanks. I'll update on how it goes.

I’ve been trying to find a way to upgrade to Win 11 on my nearly 10 year old laptop (model is 10+ years old) from Win 10 and this works like a charm without the need of any 3rd party software indeed. No need to do any registry work either. All it takes is just a few clicks of the mouse and few presses on the keyboard and boom there you have it after about a little over an hour. Honestly that system requirement check is just stupid. I feel that it’s a scam from MS to push people to upgrade to new machine. Hopefully MS won’t find this video and do something about it 😂 Thank you so much sir. Keep these videos coming! 😃

If you upgrade you will be locked out of older content such as video games and download software that's still good I wouldn't do it at this point I'd rather do my tasks on Linux.

Followed your direction, installed on a Dell OptiPlex 7010 (32GB RAM, 7TM Storage) with i7 intel 3770 running at 3.4GHz and intel 4000 HD onboard graphics.. no issues with the install. was up in a little over an hour. Shiny! I have WinRAR so I just extracted the ISO to a folder. Mounting up virtual CD-ROMS is always a pain.

I didn’t have high hopes that I would be able to install Windows 11 on a HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF i5-4670 CPU @ 3.40GHz with 16GB RAM. I’m happy to say this KZfaq tutorial was easy to follow & Windows 11 has installed successfully.

I would have never thought that a simple command switch would do this job; so much easier than editing the registry so thanks for sharing this tip. One thing from an environmental point of view is that for the work environments where you wisely advise not upgrading there can be better alternatives than buying a new PC for example: • Some systems like my HP Z240 support some Linux systems so if there are linux versions of software that the system uses that could save eWaste. • If another operating system is not an option but the production software does not require internet access then using a system like Linux and virtualising windows 10 and isolating the VM from the internet could work an keep things safe. I'm for keeping good hardware out of eWaste and this video will hopefully help get people onto Windows 11 and get longer out of their PCs Tank you!

This worked like a charm, liked and subbed 👍 I also saved / mount it on a USB flash drive ( you need to format the USB to NTSF not exfat due to the files is over 1GB files). Name the usb win11. Then I can tried and install it on other PC the way I don’t have to keep downloading it on other/that specific PC I want to install to. Once you plugged the USB (see what drive it is in) for me it is in D: drive just follow same steps on CMD prompt. D:\setup.exe /product server Press enter.

Windows 11 does work on older machines. i tried this method of a Core 2 Duo E5800. I created a USB stick and the installation went fine, but honestly, Windows 11 is quirky garbage and I see no advantage to upgrading to Windows 11 at this time. I wouldn't say I like the way it keeps nagging you to log into a Microsoft account. Thanks for posting this info.

En route have considered methods which require Registry Mods or additional Scripts installed. This very clever method works and minimises "Squeaky Bum Time" Double bonus. Thank you again.

Ever since Windows 11 was released I have been installing it without issue simply by creating a bootable USB drive and then renaming the appraiserres.dll file in the Sources folder and then running a clean install.

So I decided to download the Windows 11 23h2 pro version from Microsoft and install it on my 12 year old Acer Aspire 5750G laptop. All went smoothly, and it's not showing signs of problems 😀. I bypassed Microsofts compatability checker to allow the installation process. It has also been activated with Microsoft 😀. Not bad for a 12 year old laptop which specs are, Acer Aspire 5750G running i5-2450M 2.5GHz with turbo boost to 3.1GHz, 750GB HHD, 8GB DDR3 memory, it's nothing special by today's standards but when I bought it 12 years ago it was of good specification and it wasn't cheap!!

Chris, great video. Best Windows 11 upgrade video I've seen. Question: Are the Windows 10 files still on the PC on the C: drive and if so, is there a way to switch back to Windows 10? I ask because it is always possible that Microsoft could decide in the future to do a hardware check when installing a security patch and determine that Windows 11 is not supported on the machine and then your are stuck with an unsupported Windows 11.

You can roll back within 10 days but that’s all. If you are concerned about this then please don’t upgrade, wait until you need to replace the machine.

Make a disk image of 10, if 11 doesn't work for you then you can re install 10 where you left off

021024 I bought a Win11 home version last week and tried to install it on my MSI GX70 with Win8.1 bought in 2011. It passed inspection except for TPM and wouldn't go any further. I watched your video but when I got to @09:05 on your video it didn't go to updates, instead it wanted a key, fortunately I had one I just got and it worked! It even transferred all my files, so, thank you!

@@cwtek1 I did have a little trouble though, it kept complaining about the driver for the GPU not working right, but I reinstalled it with out saving anything and now it is working properly.

Just upgraded my Windows 10 Boot Camp partition to Windows 11 (latest version Win11_23H2_Portuguese_x64v2.iso), on an iMac 27inch Late 2013 and everything went smoothly, all devices recognized, all apps installed on Windows 10 working now on Windows 11, including a version of MS Office 2016. Automatic updates are also working. So sad that the same is not possible with recent versions of macOS. Many thanks!

I have no idea why this happened. I downloaded from Microsoft the Windows 11 .iso file onto my flash drive. I rebooted into the drive. It installed about 75% and then a box popped up telling me this was a Rufus made flash drive and it needed a couple of more options to install further. Reverted back to my Dell OptiPlex which is 14 years old and Windows 10. So I hit setup in Windows Explorer and the flash drive and it installed Windows 11. A couple of days later everything is smooth. All updates had worked and are working. Activated also. Loving it.

For me I tested windows 11 pro on a hp elitedesk 800 g2 mini the only thing that was not supported was the CPU. First of I used the Microsoft tool to create an image no mods to a usb drive plugged that in to the hp and bam clean install. Intel even gave me a driver for the video card

I heard that there is a lot of problems with windows 11 and this puts me in an uneasy mode. Can you tell me , is it worth it? When you say to delete the windows 11 folder after installation - can you explain if the wins10 is there, are all the wins 10 files upgraded to 11 or not sure-

If you feel uneasy then don’t do it, I am not trying to persuade anyone to upgrade to something they are not sure about. The windows 11 folder you need to delete is just the files needed to upgrade to Windows 11 once you have upgraded these are no longer needed and are just taking up around 7gb of space.

You have a windows.old folders in c: with all your files you have on your previous windows 10. No trouble at all, I have install windows 11 on my 2009 laptop with a modified iso, after a ram ans ssd upgrade, it's works really fine, all runs perfectly. My old laptop is more faster than the little newest lenovo of my son who's have windows 11 natively. I have to try this method on one of my other hdd or ssd I kept on backup just in case. But as I have seen in this video, you can run it without any reason to doubt. The only trouble I have, and my old laptop was on windows 10 previously since the release, on the latest version on older computer you can't make virtual machine because of the damn puce tpm and the newest security things. I look for a way but for now I don't find anything on this subject. I need virtual machine, I have to use my son laptop to make it. But my oldest laptop run like if was out of the box and it's good

@Chris Waite I don't think you know much about computers, because what you was demonstrating was performed using a virtual machine, I can see the small bar at the very bottom of the screen in the center, this is the VMWare bar, as if you didn't realize it, VMWare emulates TPM, UEFI, and CPU features, making the install of windows 11 work, I should know I have done it, and I'm still using the VMWare installled version to perform updates without even changing anything, but try what you demonstrated on a real, none supported machine it WILL fail. The video you show was running windows 11 anyway, so how can it be a none supported machine when you have Windows 11 already running? That's because it was running on a virtual machine, so if Windows 11 was already running on a real machine when you try the update, it WILL work, because to install windows 11 in the first place to do the update, the initial install would have passed all the checks. So, when you create a video I suggest you use a none supported machine and don't use screen capture, but use either a camcorder or some means of videoing you attempting to install Window 11 on a real (NOT a virtual machine) none supported machine. There IS only one way to install Windows 11 on a "REAL" unspported machine, I suggest you watch this video:- kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a8eUa5uUsamtg40.html Now, installing Windows 11 on an unsupported machine WILL result in no security updates or major updates, but minor application updates would work, this is because Win11 sends machine information to MS and if there's no result for TPM, CPU and secure boot results, then the updates will not go through.

Thanks for your comments I didn’t use VMware but virtualbox, on a machine that was built in 2011 and originally designed to run windows 7 you want reassurance this works just check the comments many people have confirmed it works at the moment on unsupported hardware. With regards to security updates they will still work on unsupported machines but feature updates do not automatically get installed, you need to manually install these but I believe this is the same issue with any method that you install Windows 11 on unsupported hardware. I checked the video you suggested and technically it does the same thing tells Windows install to bypass the TPM check etc, but the video you suggest requires a lot more effort by going into the registry editor and changing keys I’m afraid the method in my video is much more simple by comparison to do the same job. One item, setup initially kept getting hung on the Getting Updates portion and nothing would happen. On the Install Windows Server screen, click on “Change how Setup downloads updates.” Another screen will come up “Get updates, drivers and optional features” click on “Not right now” and click next. The setup will now continue all the way through without any hangups.

Hi, So I tried this on a Virtual Box Windows 10 VM. While following the directions given, I ran into a problem during the CMD section of the instructions, I got an error message that said "the app couldn't run on your PC". So I used the media creation tool, chose the option of "best suited for this pc" and then created an ISO from there. Once I did this using the media creation tool, I was able to use your instructions with the CMD prompt interface and I got to the point of installation, and no error messages. I decided to try "keeping nothing", as I have a backup of this VM, and I wanted to see how a fresh install/upgrade would go. If it doesn't work out, I can try again and choose the keep files and settings option instead. Anyway, Windows 11 is now installing on my VM! Thank you for this video!

As far as I can tell this is still working, please try restarting your computer, actually restart, do not shutdown, then try again.

@@cwtek1 thanks Chris It worked after rebooting as you said. It then prompted for an update for an update preview for H2H2 and this worked! I’m running a HP compaq mini desktop machine with a 3rd gen Intel i3 3.20Ghz with overclocking to 3.50Ghz and it’s pretty fast 🤩🙌

The question is why would you want to upgrade to W11? There's only a few new features, and they took out a bunch of old features. So you're upgrading to LESS than what you started with. If you started with W10, at least. I'm sure there's a few niche gamers who absolutely must have the latest and greatest. To them, I'm sorry. I'm sorry you think that W11 is going to be worth the upgrade. Because at least half of you will miss something that your previous OS could do.

The main reason is that Windows 10 Feature updates have now been retired so probably no new features, also Windows 10 Security updates are being retired in October 2025.

Dear Chris, thank you so much for making this video. Sadly the method doesn't work for me. I followed every step, but sadly the installer kills itself in the moment of 11:10 , when it switches from "getting ready" to the "Ready to install" screen. The setup process literally just aborts and doesn't exist anymore in task manager. Would you have any idea what might be causing this? EDIT: got it to work by turning off the update checking in the first step. It just did the updates later by itself :) Installation went through smoothly on a machine from 2007 ! Win11 runs beautifully on it. So glad I found your video.

not a bad way to do it, I found it worked by just d/l win 11 media creation and put in on a flash drive, restart computer and go to bios and make the drive 1st to boot, goes thru same scenario w/o creating a folder and doing cmd.

Yes you can do security updates but feature updates need to be manually updated.

thanks a lot. My perfectly well working laptop now runs W11. I discovered that it had TPM 1.2 but not activated. I activated it, and do not notice differences in performance. I suppose activating 1.2 is better than no TPM?

I would say this method is a designed Microsoft loophole install, to alllow enterprise users (big companies, government, telco servers, data servers, medical and science labs), and ODM (design manufactuers)users install Windows 11 on non compliant equipment, ie ATM machines, banking computers, and retail tills etc, also medical equipment like CAT and MRI scanners, and also military and military research plus blackops. As they will have enterprise level activation keys with a Microsoft legal services letter that they can have a open licence for infinitive copies without the risk of being sued for copyright overuse. One example is gov.uk is run by Microsoft paid by the UK Government for Microsoft to supply full hardware and software infastructure with updates and security.

@@cwtek1 Its like yonks 20 years ago with 95 aABC and the 98v1 (which was called 95 D as I had a enterprise copy was a 95 logoed 98v1), which 98v2 ie SE cams quickly to remove all of the 95 logos and just had the USB driver and USB modem patch as standard. Anyway as enterprise has the reels of Microsoft licences, they were all activated on the 111....ending in 2 key. Then Microsoft did a pre disk for OEM and ODM to mass image on HDD duplicators so no key was needed and it bypassed the key activation on first boot by the user, ie what we call now OEM imaging of Windows. These exist for every Microsoft product, Microsoft will have a special exempt key to do some modifications in the software, ie your Win11 solution is to evoke server mode, so thats a enterprise solution. Also their are keys and Microsoft disks (ie now USB boot stuff) to patch a Windows device, was mainly for servers that got locked out, ie a disgruntaled employee who changed the master server group password. I found that the best ever Windows to be used on a laptop or desktop for personal use, was Windows Advanced Server 2000, as it was impossible to crash with them Explorer memory leaks, upon a crash it quickly rebuild its self and kills the last known running problem software that took all the cpu processing power. Lots of times I was called out to big companies to unlock servers that got password locked out by sacked employees. Its a quick job just put in the Microsoft override patch disk, if the server is not gone in to screensaver lock mode then quickly run the disk to remove the group password, else reboot the server with this boot disk and it will remove the password to nothing and ask for a new password upon Windows server starting up. There are so many backdoors in all Windows and Office, including turing of auto updates, you really think the activation updates would kick in on a MRI, military, High gov or blackop system - nop it would not. Now Windows 95 D was because BT had such open MSoft legal services document for infitive licences. Its identical to Windows 98v1 but with the 95 boot logo and states 95 D as version when asked. Now 95 D did not ask for a key even on its normal install disks and cds. Nor was BT programmed in, so you just got the user name corperate name etc question on install but the serial key was not there. On install it just had the 111....2 etc as the serial key showing on the system page. Yes I worked for some of the big global computer companies at that time as a engineer, so that how I know.

Thank you Chis very much indeed. For me I wasn't given the option to keep the apps and files, only the files; but no worries as I only had Office on there which I am reinstalling as we speak. All of my personal files were untouched. After the install finished, the resolution of the screen was stretched but that was fixed with a restart so all looks good will let you know if any problems down the line. Update: the computer has just told me to restart as it needs to update so updates are working too :-)

Thank you so much for this feedback. I wasn't sure of my original install language, so I chose English International, unfortunately, it gave me the limitation. But this is now giving me the confidence to go ahead and continue with the installation.

Definitely will install as I got to the installation page but it wouldn’t allow me the option of being able to keep all my apps and files? It would only allow me to keep my files then install. I don’t fancy the drawn out process of having to re-install all of my programs.😕

This normally happens if you have downloaded the ISO file which has a different language from the one you have already installed.
