The fear of being punished is what will keep you from understanding the truth. Here's an example: A guy has a gun to my head and promises to shoot me(punish me) if I do not believe his math equation, which is....."2+2=100". If I do not believe him, he will punish me. If you come along and prove that 2+2=4, I will not be able to believe the truth you are telling me. Why? Because I will get punished if I do, so I cannot believe you. I cannot believe the truth. The fear of being shot is what keeps me from understanding the truth. It's the same with religion. You are too scared to believe the truth the atheists are telling you. In order to believe/understand what the atheists are telling you, you have to lose your fear. Once you lose fear, you can understand the truth.
