I had a little time to chat with a guy named Trevon in the Little Five Points area of Atlanta. We talked about his belief that we are all our own gods and some other interesting topics.

Junnie Davis haha. 1 year later comment. Hey! You’re totally right! I think the quote is speaking more on the fact that Christianity isn’t simply a change of behaviour. It’s kinda like saying “because I no longer gossip I’m a Christian” which obviously wouldn’t be the case. But I understand your point as well, when we come to Christ our behaviour and our heart changes towards things that are Godly. Even when we repent, while being Christian we turn away from our sin and our heart is regenerated by the holy spirt. So you are right!

@1pillarmark
@1pillarmark 5 жыл бұрын
jettythesunfish believed in atheism. It is a belief to not believe. There were a series of events of learning about the Gospel, the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Mainly that I am a sinner. I’ve broken God’s laws (10 commandments) and I needed a Savior. The moment is something that God has done for me because I could not and cannot save myself. I believe in the one true God who sent His Son, Jesus Christ to do what I could not do. I’m not a theist. I am a Christian. Read the Bible, I like the English standard version, personally. Know the facts about Christianity read up on it. I did. One day it was beyond a shadow of a doubt that Christianity is the only way.

I think he went looking not so much for something that would agree with him. That can be part of it. But something and someone that wouldn't hurt him. And that's different. A lot of ppl turn away from Christianity bc they are smart enough to know that the ones giving them the message are not for them. They are hurting them. And a lot of ppl turn to Jesus and come out of their sin bc they finally come in contact with the truth that he loves them and is not out to hurt them. That love or the lack of it changes everything.

It was actually earlier than that. Remember, in the book of Acts, the Eunuch of Queen Candace of Ethiopia who the Apostle Phillip found traveling from Jerusalem reading the book of Isaiah? That was 1st Century AD. He got baptized by Philip and returned to Ethiopia to convert the whole kingdom. We know this to be factual because by 4th Century AD the entire Aksum Empire (which was the ruling empire in Northern Ethiopia) accepted Christianity. Some even claim the Aksumites to be descendants of the Queen of Sheba who met with King Solomon. Therefore, Ethiopians very likely knew of the True & Living God even before the time of Christ. @collinwalker550
@collinwalker550 4 жыл бұрын
Ehhhh, I haven't seen scripture to support that all sins are viewed as the same level of "evil" by God. All sin causes men to fall short of the Glory of God, however, that doesn't mean there aren't varying punishments for differing degrees and acts of sin. I think that is displayed clearly in the Old Testament law. By God instituting varying degrees of "just" punishment, I think those punishments indicate God's view on the sin's level of severity. Think of it this way... would it be just for Hitler to receive the same amount of punishment as a liar and petty thief? I think we can all agree that would not be just, and we must remember God is perfectly just. When pointing people to Christ, I don't think focusing on the degree of sin is important because Christ's sacrifice covers all sin, however that's not to say it doesn't exist.

@@collinwalker550 Our justice is different from God's justice. Would you not agree that there is only one Hell. But there is more than one way to pay for a crime in the world- fine, community service, jail. But when God was saying sin is sin he was saying that Jesus blood covers it all- that's why he is a just God. God gives out righteous judgment not just judgement- A loving justice that provides a second chance before damnation.

I am a Nigerian and from the Igbo tribe which shares 90 percent spirituality and culture with the Hebrew Israelites. Having said that, I grew in African spirituality and I have studied African spirituality which is in itself a religion, but I am a Christian because it is more plausible to me over the years of my experience and studies. I can say that God consciousness has been with the primitive people who predates Christianity and that their practices and belief are the desire for the true God. The simple example is that in all the African spiritualities and religions (I used the plural words because there are many spiritualities and religions in Africa which are even older than Egyptian mythology but people seem to focus on Egypt because of the Pyramid). Having said that, in all these religions, we have hierarchical order in their gods. That in itself is a reflection of that consciousness of the one supreme God. Because at the end there is one supreme over all. Monotheism has always been there but the people lacked the true knowledge. The problem my fellow Africans have is to always think that being first is being true. Also to always want everything to be African and that no truth can come from the white man. There is a lot of racial prejudice among my African Americans and African brothers and as well among Westerners. But so unfortunate our racial prejudice and history of slavery beclouds our ability to embrace the truth. Everything outside Africa is now a suspect. Mostly with religion and spirituality. But the fact is that Christianity is not even a white man's religion. Thanks for giving my brother those words. I pray he has a change of mind after this conversation.

@@noeliyah6669 Jacob had 12 sons, which became the 12 tribes of Israel, my question, which of these tribes were african? Remember, Jacob's name was changed to lsrael by God and his 12 sons became the nation of Israel, being Hebrew. Where is the root, that began the Hebrew/Israelites? Remember, there's only one name, given under heaven by which a man can be saved, and that name is Christ Jesus.

@@kennethjohnson4456 my exact sentiments. I am African but I don't understand why my other black brothers and sisters want so badly to be blood-related to Israel. We are gentiles that have been accepted in the family of Christ. Shouldn't that instead remind us how undeserving we are and praise Jesus for His sacrifice that has forever changed us? (not saying that Israel was deserving) This really shows that many "Christians" have not understood the work that He came to do and it is truly sad. I pray that we allow Him to actually impact our lives rather than majoring on things that don't even matter at all.

I've also noticed that many people my age (young 20s) have fallen "out of love" with God or been hurt badly by the church in some way, or maybe their parents. So I try to remember that knowing God as a good parent/father/friend is next to impossible if you have never know this in your own life. Also, I like the Aristotle approach to conversation building/debates, it's a great way to stimulate and keep the dialogue going! Thank you for uploading Trevon!*

I recently converted into Christianity again because my guy would challenge with me with questions. I didn't even know how to answer questions regarding my other believes after a while. So I questioned myself... Proof that I was lost. But now that I am back, I am stronger than ever before. The wisdom that the powerful Word of God provides does not compare. ONE MUST READ THE BIBLE! Otherwise, you'll be told lies upon opinions and that doesn't serve us any justice. It's all in the Bible. Now I'm sure about why I believe in God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. GLORY BE TO GOD!

Trevon was so lost. I know that in order for the Holy Spirit to work in our lives, we must have a humble heart, we must metaphorically appear as a child in the presence of God..However I sensed that Trevon was a bit hard hearted. He attempted to defend his belief every single time. Even though his attempts were quickly refuted by the truth. I guess it's his first encounter being met with respect in discussing something of this nature, and it also takes work to undo years of being conditioned by false doctrine. But it only takes a spark, Preston was that spark.. I pray that he seeks the God of the Holy Bible going forward so that he will turn away from sin. Good vid.

Hi Preston, Yoruba is not a religion. It's a nation of people. However I think when he says he practices Yoruba as a religion, he means he practices any of the 'religions' that have sprung out of the Yoruba culture. There's the Ifa religious corpus and there are gods or should I say spiritual custodians in the Yoruba pantheon and mythology. Many of those practiced outside of Yoruba speaking parts of Africa especially those practised in the Caribbeans and in America were passed down by slaves taken from west Africa to the Caribbeans and America. So there's Yoruba culture and language but there are many spiritual practices under the Yoruba culture. I'm part Yoruba and part Ishan and live in Nigeria.
