There is a big misconception about buddhist statues. Buddhists began to sculpt statues after they met the greeks and for a lot of buddhists: Statues are not objects of idolatry, but reminders of the teachings, and the Buddha is not considered a god but a great spiritual teacher. About the belief in god, there are buddhists who believe in god or gods and there are others who don't. There is a story about the buddha in which he is asked stuff like: "Is there a god?" or "How did the world begin?" And he replied: I DON'T KNOW. There may be a god or not, but this is not important to me as my teachings are centered in the understanding of the nature of reality and specially for a practical approach. The aim of my teachings is above all the overcoming of suffering. Maybe that's the reason why buddhism is in general known for respecting other believes. Note that the Buddha was a really racional teacher as he taught things like: "Never accept any truth, even those which I'm preaching without investigating it by yourself first." He was the most scientific spiritual leader I've ever come across.

I am a buddhist and can answer your question according to my knowledge. Actually we say that he, historical Buddha, our Blessed Teacher, manifested himself in this world as other numberless buddhas do in numberless worlds and universes. His teaching, Dharma, is not constructed from the scratch, but rests in the world and is revealed by the buddhas. The difference between buddha and other enlightened people is that he can reveal and teach Dharma, he studied many lives in different forms before the right place and the right time comes. We treat the story of his princehood as a legend, do not need to prove if it was true or not. In our core heart we are equal, equal in desire of happiness and desire of avoiding suffering. Nobody is born bad, even if one did bad things, would have a chance to change. Life is not suffering just as it is, we create suffering by our wrong doing, doing without consciousness. So, to avoid it, need to stop first of all and think of the causes and affects of actions. If wrong doings are done without consciousness, we need to trigger our consciousness by learning and studying - how to love, how to be happy. And this boundless learning will reveal the buddhahood, ability to teach others who do not know how to avoid suffering and bring everyone to the beyond-ultimate happiness.

Buddhism if it comes to Africa it should be intergrated to African culture. Buddha has said his teachings shouldn't change the native culture and rules of kings in the country. His teachings must intergrated peacefully with the culture. I'd personally love to see African Buddhism and that culture. Basically Sri Lanka had Animism prior to Buddhism, people worshipped rocks,trees and dead remains of people. So this culture was shifted to Buddhism and people started worshipping Buddha's remains and Relics, saplings of the Bodhi tree and stone statues of Buddha. I really fee l his teachings might very beautifully revive African culture, and in my opinion it's time for African Buddhism don't you think. 🤔.

As a Buddhist, the only things that get me offended is when people says Buddha said something but he didn't, like for example "Life is suffering", "Desire is the cause of suffering"

He meditated while sitting under the tree; No teacher he had studied under before that was able to give him instructions on how to achieve peace of mind, so he set out to figure it out himself. In fact he took an oath that he would either figure it out, or die in that place.

1. In response to the question: how did Buddha achieve enlightenment through meditation? A: he has practiced what he preached many past lives before. Through mediation, he recollected those knowledge and he decided that it was time to spread them to the world. 2. Expanding this with relation to Christianity, Jesus has similar teachings to the Buddha and in the birth story of Jesus Christ, it was said that three wise man from the east came to Joseph’s house and predicted his destiny. ( This is how the Dalai Lama and other great teachers’s reincarnation are found 3. Reincarnation is originally taught by Jesus and is an inherent nature of what the Buddha expounded.

It is a cool summary but in the end Buddhist teachings are of course wider and deeper than this.

Right Concentration is a somewhat poor translation. What it means is probably better said in English as "Right Meditation." Just as a side note, this step in the Eightfold Path is the most controversial in the modern Theravadan world, as there is a movement called "Dry Insight," which contends that achieving the deepest meditative states, called the jhanas, is unnecessary, but it's pretty clearly said in the Pali Canon, the Theravadan Bible of sorts, that Right Concentration literally IS the jhanas. Out of everything the video you watched said, this is the detail they were the most off about. Right Concentration is not just about focusing on any old thing. It specifically means taking up one of the 40 meditation objects detailed by the Buddha.

I know early Buddhism has an explanation of what nirvana is. The early Buddhists believed that nirvana is a different direct experience of the world. While in samsara we see ordinary objects we hate or crave like people, animals, swamps, oceans, and so on, all of these things are only conventions. What they actually are is collections of subatomic events the early Buddhists commonly called dharmas or skandhas. So samsara is a direct experience of conventions while nirvana is an experience of the ultimate truth--which is everything is just skandhas. So meditation brings one to nirvana because meditation gives them the direct experience of the ultimate truth that everything is just subatomic skandhas. An analogy could be while you're in samsara you will crave the hot girl or the fancy car, but in nirvana you cannot feel craving anymore to these things because now you experience them as heaps of skandhas and every object we can ever think of is a heap of skandhas.

I'm a Theravada Buddhist, and if you wonder what is it about i can say we believe (not blindly believe, we believe with facts ) that there is no sense of self, we don't believe in something called 'athma' or soul (actually we people can't understand it this is something very complex we can only scratch the surface by hearing it from lord Buddha's teachings , if we want to understand it completely, we need to get enlightened by following the way that lord Buddha showed us) and here in our teachings the enlightenment of lord Buddha and the enlightenment of his followers are clearly two different things. the enlightenment of lord Buddha we called it as 'Buddhahood' or 'Buddhathwaya' and the enlightenment of his followers we called it as 'Arahath' or 'Rahath' . but don't misunderstand, cause the two paths leads to the same destination the only difference is the knowledge they have. and this destination called nirvana is hidden in the universe, only a Buddha can show us the way. and if you wonder we believe in gods? yeah we do. cause lord Buddha himself told us about gods and how we can become gods but he also said that's its only a temporarily fix for the suffering or samsara (it is the cycle where we born again and again, going through same ordeal which we called 'life' and die again and again. this is also relevant to god and every being in the universe ). the only way that we can end suffering is nirvana. and the most important fact is that we don't believe in a almighty god who created all things cause the Buddha taught us how the world was created, actually its a natural occurrence and some of the things are aligns with the science findings. and lord Buddha once said the lord Buddha can not be compared to an another being except for another Buddha. lord Buddha is not a god. another important fact is that, the mediation is not a method to calm your mind, it goes way deeper than that there are two categories called 'samatha' and 'vipassana' if you want to know more refer books like 'Abhidharma' and 'Suthra pitakaya' Lord Buddha once said, don't believe it because I said, don't believe it because your family said, don't believe it because your friend said. believe it after considering with your own knowledge. so don't believe everything i said, do your own research and decide yourself whether to believe it or not.

And they forgot to understand about their own life. Self realization is path to enlightenment. Once you're enlightened you don't need God. You will be God.

It's really very simple...no religion (Jesus) becomes a religion...Buddah (no religion) becomes a religion...priests/clergy/ holy men etc etc etc, want only one thing... control..... politicians/heads of state/ kings and queens, want only one thing....control. That's it entirely. The answer? Well, all the wise sage's knew, and indeed, said it....go within, God is within. What is God? the very aspect of man, that creates. What is a demon? the very aspect of man, that destroys. This, is my view, entirely. Forgiveness, is everything, everything. 🙏

These stories of the Buddha are allegorical hagiographies that are not associated with Dhamma. Unlike Christianity, the mythologies and “stories” are separate from the methodology and the philosophy. Because of the pollution of western religion, people influenced by western religions view everything through the telescope of western religions. The explanation of Dhamma (teaching / existence) in that video was extremely shallow, badly translated. For example, the word “dukkha” does not mean suffering. It refers to ALL the inconveniences of life, even the good things (which are inconvenient because they decay and pass away). The Buddha was not getting his teachings from “someone”. In Buddhism there is no “someone”. Namo Buddhaya.

buddha never found the answer to life, death, or human suffering. He basically just says be a good person, which we are supposed to do anyway. He says don't do (x), seek truth and dips. None of this makes sense without some mind judging us and controlling the karma system in order to declare who reaches enlightenment and who gets reincarnated. Furthermore, this mind of God would have to determine who acheived certain levels of enlightenment in order to place them in the correct reincarnated state. The idea that there is some mechanical system somehow making these determinations as part of the creation makes absolutely no sense. Seems like Buddhism is missing a judge, Some great disembodied mind to determine these things.
