Some vehicles are lucky if nothing else. I have a motorcycle I had an accident with at 100 mph, walked away. Got run over on it by a car, got a black leg for some weeks but nothing permanent. It doesn't look too great anymore as it took a lot of damage in that one, but I'm not getting rid of it until the police impound it.

Fun fact: The lead actress is a twin and she decided to prank the director by having her sister stand in for her during a scene. The director is looking at the setup and asking himself "why isn't this looking right?" The lead actress, walks up behind him and says "did you replace me ALREADY?!" To say the director was shocked, is an *understatement!*

My Dad had a black car that he called Christine (because of this movie). We laughed about it.... UNTIL one day the other car was in the shop, (my Dad was at work) and we had to use "Christine" to go to the store. The key would not come out once we got there. So someone had to wait in the car. Then when we got home, the key came right out. My Dad said "Christine didn't want ya'll asses in there." He laughs his azz off every time he brings it up. And no, we didn't attempt to drive it again.

I had a 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis (basically a Crown Vic with bells and whistles). Dad and I rebuilt its engine; it had a couple seized pistons and we made some upgrades. The day of its first test drive after being rebuilt, my Dad left it running to warm up and was outside breaking ice away from the garage door (it was winter in the upper Midwest). Somehow, it caught fire while sitting there idling. Took out most of Dad's garage and almost killed him in the process. He tried to go in with a fire extinguisher and save it. After that, we called it Christine. Kept the engine block--it was still good. Crushed the rest in the junkyard. I painted the "Christine" logo on the hood and the tow truck driver that picked her up was like, "Do I need to be worried?" I told him to make sure it was first in line for the crusher when he got to the yard. He did.

"Whoa, whoa. You better watch what you say about my car. She's real sensitive." Fun Fact: Both Stephen King and John Carpenter have cited H.P. Lovecraft as inspiration. Location Location Fact: Portions of the film, particularly Arnie's neighborhood, were shot in the same South Pasadena neighborhood that director John Carpenter used in Halloween (1978). Extra Extra Fact: Oak Park High School's football team was used to film the game; being a small school, all boys from the school had to be used to field both sides of the ball as well as the sidelines. OPHS uniforms were used by the defense, and for the offense, league rival Carpenteria's uniform was used. Automobile Enthusiast Fact: Christine is a 1958 Plymouth Fury. Dennis' (John Stockwell) car is a 1968 Dodge Charger 440. Buddy's (William Ostrander) car is a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro. Will Darnell's (Robert Prosky) car is a 1974 Cadillac Coupe DeVille. Arnie's (Keith Gordon) parents' car is a 1971 Volvo 144 Automatic. The bulldozer is a Caterpillar 977 K. Movie Magic Fact: To simulate the car regenerating itself, hydraulic pumps were installed on the inside of some of the film's numerous Plymouth Fury stunt doubles, a mock-up in plastic that looked more like metal on camera than actual metal as it bent and deformed. These pumps were attached to cables, which were in turn attached to the cars' bodywork and when they compressed, they would "suck" the paneling inwards. Footage of the inward crumpling body was then reversed, giving the appearance of the car spontaneously retaking form. Seeing Double Fact: As a joke, Alexandra Paul's twin sister, Caroline Paul, stood in for her during the scene during the ride on the bulldozer. According to Paul, she took her sister to the set and, with the help of the hair, makeup and wardrobe departments, she dressed up as Paul's character Leigh and went to the set with John Stockwell to shoot the scene. They shot her sister Caroline helping drive the bulldozer and then Paul walked out and jokingly asked John Carpenter if he had fired her. Carpenter later admitted he had thought there was something different about her but couldn't put his finger on it.

Christine driving while on fire is an iconic horror movie moment. Grand Theft Auto Online even paid tribute to Christine this past Halloween by having a flaming ghost car identical to Christine randomly attack people in online lobbies.

When this movie came out, in 1983, I thought it was going to be another version of an earlier movie called "The Car" from 1977. I usually read King's books before they became movies, but if I recall correctly, in 1982 I graduated, and moved out of my parent's home, and just got busy with life for a short time and didn't do much reading for a few years. I was happy to see it was much for fleshed out than the movie The Car - and should not have doubted Stephen King.

Christine is hands down, One of My Favourite Movies of ALL Time. And I'm not even a Car person. But there's always been something beautiful about The Finalities of Doomed Relationships.. brought about by Obsession. The Other thing was, seeing Her Self Repair like that.. brings Warmth to My Carmageddon Fan Heart. 😁

For Halloween, I took a plain white carboard sheet the size of the windshield of my blue Chevy Equinox I named, "Hellen", placed it on the windshield and drew and painted the Christine logo like the way it is written for the movie and wrote, "Christine's BFF, Hellen". Then, on Halloween night, I placed a bowl of candy for the Trick or Treaters in front of the Equinox in the driveway, facing the street, with the bowl a few feet in front of the car ( and the cardboard sign on the windshield). And, everytime someone would come by, I would make the headlights turn on or make the horn blow or make the car turn on using the car key remote, as I was looking outside through my window in my house. I got a kick watching people's reactions.

This is my shit, I love this movie. The car is F’N beautiful. The actor playing Artie was in Jaws or Jaws 2 he was the one who was on the inflatable boat trying to re inflate. That’s probably why he looks familiar cause this and Jaws 2 the only films I’ve scene him in. Idk about gremlins but, the actor who plays Darnel the garage owner he was in Last Action hero he played nick the theater owner.

Fun Fact: Stephen King named the car after director George Romero’s wife Christine. This came about after working with Romero on the movie Creepshow. His wife Christine had small role as a character named Tabitha in the short story The Crate.

"I feel like Christine is the victim..." She snapped that guy's hand for poking around under her hood. Ladies like Christine don't like strangers sticking their hands up in places they shouldn't 😉 Treat Christine like a lady and and she'll treat you right. Do her dirty and it's your end.

1957 Plymouth Fury. My favorite line, "shit wipes off." And Buddy Repperton calling Arnie, 'Cuntingham.' The King book is very different but this is an underrated adaptation. I believe it's being remade soon.

JL, about the colors... When I was a baby my parents bought one of those brand new. They had it a few years so I can pretty well remember it. It was a beautiful shade of Coral. I especially remember people admiring it. Or rather, I guess I should say admiring her.👀

This is one of my all time favourite films and books. I won't give any spoilers but there are some differences in the book, and you get more of Christine's backstory. There are so many stylistic shots/scenes in this movie that just look so cool they stand out even today. If ever there was a book I wish I had an original signed copy of, it's this one.

Love that this one is getting watched. This is one of my favourite Carpenter films, The Thing being another. I love the use of score in it, and the use of classic music to denote what Christine is "thinking". Yes the novel and film are very different but as been said, they are both great. Keith Gordon is terrific and you see change in him, and Harry Dean Stanton is another great actor with good films under his belt. This is going to be a FUN ride! What I do feel sad about, when it comes to the production, is that out of all the cars used, I think only one or maybe TWO remain.. ehm... alive, to this day. I watched the wartime film: Where Eagles Dare" recently and was reminded the aircraft in the film, that used to work up until recently was destroyed in a crash. It is so sad so see things such as classic vehicles, some outlast wars and combat and years after or classic cars ending up lost to time and crashes.

You wondered if Christine came after them? It's been ages since I read the book, but as I recall, this couple went to college, broke up, she married someone else, then about 10 years out, he spotted Christine, out hunting him. He had to run, and was trying to figure out how to contact the girl and warn her before Christine found her, too.

Christine was a 1958 Plymouth Fury. They actually used two other Plymouth models as well, the Savoy and the Belvedere but the Fury was the main car featured. You would probably also enjoy another Stephen King movie that came out around this time, "Cat's Eye." It stars a young Drew Barrymore. It's an underrated film.
