As she played unmuted/unmuted. I had the impression of one horn sounding, and a replying horn in the distance. One horn player doing the work of two. Symphony accountants will love this. Tremendous potential, musically and financially.

I wish I had enough money to customize a french horn. I can't even afford a decent factory double horn to play. Makes me wonder how many French Horn players out there never get the chance because of the cost of the instrument. Sorry, got on a tangent. I do love that you are experimenting and making new ways for composers to write. That is amazing.

+Kiley Willard As a Bari sax player I have run into the same type of thing. And some people would suggest just playing another type of sax.. but at least for me . I am way better at playing a bari then anything else. If I was never able to pick up a Bari at my school(so many years ago) I would never found out how good I could be. But when I tried to get one for myself .. I saw they were worth more then my car.

Wow! A composers delight! I don't play the french horn, but it seems they have to provide the middle ground in the orchestra. This horn sounds amazing. Having to supply the dynamics of a trumpet then a woodwind makes a lot more sense. Not mention the wow factor of Fortepiano and Sforzando Piano! Bravo!

For those asking if there is any music for this instrument, Christine recorded a duet for double bell horn and piano in 2015 which you can buy from Amazon: www.amazon.com/Duo-Double-Bell-Horn-Piano/dp/B00YZ3099A (also on Spotify and iTunes, if you have those services) At one point, the Ensemble Musikfabrik she plays in did a concert for double bell trombone (!) and ensemble, where ALL brass players were required to use double belled instruments, so supposedly all of them - not just Christine - has had this sort of modification done to the instrument. However she took some time off during that project so a colleague Frank Lloyd filled in for her on what I presume is the same horn as in the video. www.exroyalmarinesbandsmen.net/FLloyddblhrn.htm There may have been more compositions in the past 6 years, but if the number of modified instruments are few and far between, it might mostly be one-offs. Ensemble Musikfabrik by the way has posted KZfaq videos about double bell trumpet and double bell trombone too, so look those up if you like. When it comes to double bell euphonium, trumpet and even small tubas, it almost seems like standard practise so perhaps putting it on the French horn is what makes it special.

I would be concerned about the tension that would build in the horn when the bell is front facing and holding a large mute (say a bass trombone bucket mute). Maybe add some braces in a second version? (Though that would limit the speed in which one could shift bell direction) Or perhaps have a stand that would support the weight? All in all, this is really cool and I want to hear more!!
