*NEW TOOL NOT FEATURED* - Check out Ventoy as it is very easy and works on any OS - www.ventoy.net/en/index.html *DISCLAIMER:* There are multiple ways to do Multiboot but I picked YUMI because I need Windows, Linux, and Utilities all within a single USB drive. Many other utilities I found just didn't accomplish this task. YUMI was the best for using both Windows and Linux based systems. I just wanted to showcase you can use some Windows tools like YUMI on Linux without issue.

I have been looking for something that will let me put iso images so I can install any OS or run live images w/o a crazy installer from a USB drive. I tried Easy2Boot which appears to be working but failed mid-install on a server 2019. I am thinking maybe the drive went bad on me. Thoughts?

YUMI is "nice", though I prefer MultiBoot or Easy2Boot. Both have been at this for several years now, unlike Yumi which was stuck in legacy until only recently (my original reason for ditching it nearly 10 years ago). Also very nice that both come with system agnostic tools, no need for Wine. And even more "nice", both also add the ability to simply copy an ISO file direct onto the USB drive (into the ISO folder) which is added to the grub menu at boot time - actually makes this whole process a lot easier. Especially Eas2Boot really only needs you to use its tool once, to generate the boot + efi folders and setup its e2b folder containing all the ISOs. After that a normal file copy works. And this works on all the ISO files I've tried, including even W10.

I really recommend ventoy, it's a simple foss utility that formats the pen drive into a small 16 MB FAT16 partition you don't have to worry about and another exFAT to fill the rest, you can simply drag and drop isos on the exfat partition (no unzipping no programs no nothing, just simple drag and drop) and you will be able to boot off of them, and you can also put other sorts of files on the exfat partiton for general purpose storage so you will be able to use it as a normal pendrive as well as a boot pendrive

If you have an available, lower capacity SATA3 SSD (32,64,120 GB), then consider using it as your installation medium (via external enclosure to USB port.) It will fly faster than any thumb drive.

Thanks for the video, Chris! Just found this, as I wanted to make a multi-boot with rescue tools, but be able to update the software. Think of a stick with a Win7 recovery tool, Hiren's Rescue (old but works on some things), the Win10 version of Hiren's Rescue (resurrected by fans); Gparted Rescue, etc. And you can use the stick's memory to save rescued files if it's got enough room also. Plus makes notes on what tools do what on each bootable version.

Oh, coming from what you stated, I know you'd avoid CentOS Server like the plague. I dl'ed the iso, & it's just over 7 gig in size. Fortunately, at the computer store where I live, they sell 8.5 gig 240 minute 1-8 speed DVD+R dual discs. No need for installing an internal blue-ray drive. About $28.00 for 25 blank discs. They had the last pack on the shelf. I guess they're becoming a feasible substitute over a blue-ray drive & the cost of blank discs.

Before watch the video I thought that maybe it about creating multiboot under Linux... But no, it's about windows tool under wine! If so, why not offer something like easy2boot, it allows to launch .iso file directly, just copy it on flash drive and "enter" in menu and it works.. often works(yeah, with efi, it's require reboot, after "enter"..). But I personally prefer to use iodd's hard drive case that can mount iso and shows itself as regular USB cdrom and works almost on every pc (that supports USB cdrom). With (multi) boot flash, there's anyway some chances that just fail to boot

I am a distro hopper so I'm pretty familiar with this topic. I have 3 computers and about a dozen hard drives, a couple of disk docking stations, a few ssd drives, and several dozen MicroSD cards and thumb drives. Well, I saw your video and I immediately went out and searched the web for a similar program and I won't say which one I chose but I nearly ruined two thumb drives. After using their program to put multiple OSs on thumb drives, they would not boot, even though I tried many attempts to get the right BIOS/uefi settings and grub installations . Then I tried to delete everything and reformat the thumb drives. I couldn't format them because after stumbling around a bit in Linux and Windows 10, I had to use Partman to put a new MBR on the drive. It was the only way I could format them with FAT32. Win 10 was helpless with it.

Wow, this video is so far behind the times. YUMI has been around for years and it's limited to what is had on it's list (which is, admittedly, a lot) but it's got some installers that are buggy. Ventoy is, i admit, a pretty cool but it (also) has some buggy features with certain types of ISOs as well. Neither are perfect but as far as time and effort goes (even GUI) Ventoy is superior. YUMI has been building up it's inventory for a long time and really had the wind taken out of it's sails when Ventoy came along.

Chris, Have you tried this under Linux, it does the same "Ventoy" ? And it's available for Linux, Windows and can be run in liveCD to create Multiple ISO boot usb drive.

I'm using Ventoy now, coming from Yumi. Works great and easier to use. I just dropped ISO in the Ventoy folder and it's good to go. Both Yumi and Ventoy has issues, but so far both works almost the same.

i've been using yumi since i had to hop to EFI boot because of the nvme drive. it ain't perfect as it sometimes fails to properly setup the bootloader menu but hey it works.

kinda lost with the part where you are showing the legacy bit and booting from it, are they from the same USB drive and from the same distros that you installed using YUMI UEFI? or not?

Hi Chris, how did you customise that linux terminal to show the current directory in multiple colors. (Path to the current location prompt ie Titus>studio>~Downloads breadcrumb like things)

Daft question, when you stopped “yummi” how do you had more to the original usb. + could you make a awesome live disk that we could install on low memory laptops. I had a go at it and failed, still a noobie when it’s Linux. More of a mac user.

Hi ! This video is very interesting, I would like to put a few distros on my new USB drive, but one of them is missing from the Yumi list: Pop OS. Is there a way to add it on the drive anyway?

So I picked up a 128GB drive for this, but my Elementary OS is not supported. I tried manually adding it as a Debein, but no luck. Also, can the drive be partitioned in some way so that a I can keep application installs separate from distros? I would love a follow up.

Just in time! That's excactly what i'm doing right now. There's some issues when i try to install a distribution form that live-versions (Parrot, Debian10, etc. - I've tryed some) In my case installations only worked with Lili-Installed OS's. Don't know why...

When installing from some Linux Distros, you have to change the source from (cdrom) to /dev/sdX4 (the USB drives 4th partition). See www.easy2boot.com/add-payload-files/list-of-tested-payload-files/
