=============================
This is a video of me taking a catapult shot on Christmas Day in a Navy C-2 Greyhound. It was filmed as we flew off from the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier a few years back. With a wingspan of 81', the C-2 ties with the E-2 Hawkeye as the biggest aircraft to currently fly on and off of U.S Navy aircraft carriers.
So the big question is, WHY am I saluting with my left hand? LEAVE YOUR ANSWER IN THE COMMENTS BELOW :)

They spoke below about Christmas mail getting through! This was huge to my brother when he newly enlisted in the Navy, decades ago now. My mom and I made him dozens and dozens of homemade cookies and mailed them. We weren’t sure they’d make it, but they did! He asked for more very soon after too. My momma replied in a letter, you shouldn’t be eating all those cookies out there! He said he had only eaten a couple.. they were currency! He used them as bartering tools, favors! Lol. He was on the Nimitz, Yosemite, and I can’t recall all of them. He passed young in his 50’s, doing what he loved best… going fast! Thank you for this perspective and reminder of those times. He retired from the Navy.. dad retired from the Army. I have always appreciated the special breed of sacrificing humans. Where would we be without you… Thank you. ❤

What always amazes me is how much slower a cat launch seems like from the inside of an aircraft compared to outside it. On the deck, you blink and it's gone. Inside the cockpit it seems like it takes a solid minute. I know it doesn't of course, but it seems that way.

Christmas Cheer is a top priority for all Branches. I had just gotten off duty after a Graves shift covering Christmas Eve / Christmas Morning at Camp Hof, FRG. All night long we had been given the usual spoof Santa sighting reports from our FLIR aircraft patrolling the East/West German border and GSR guys. I finally got off shift and headed to the mess hall...admittedly tired and a little bummed because I couldn't be with my family on Christmas. I was surprised because the entire mess hall was filled with my entire Cavalry Troop. My old First Sergeant, who was from West Virginia, had found out Loretta Lynn was in Germany over the Christmas season. Somehow, someway....he got her to come visit us up on the border. I'll never forget her kindness, and what a great impact that small gesture had on us. So much so that I remember it like it was yesterday, and that was 37 years ago.

At 2:11 you can see a flight deck crewman at left present the Weight Board to the pilots. The copilot points it out to the pilot who acknowledges with a thumbs up that the posted launch weight is correct. Every aircraft is launched according to its gross weight + aircraft type + wind over the deck. On a windy day a lightly-loaded C-2 with those huge wings will get a pretty soft launch. The hardest shots I had in the Phantom back in the day were on dead-calm days where the ship was making all the wind and the F-4 had a full load of Mk-82 bombs.

@@edmundkockenlocker4672 The mustache is the only facial hair allowed in the military unless regulations have changed since I was in. I believe one reason is that in the case of a chemical attack a beard might prevent proper sealing of a face mask. There may be other reasons though.

After my stint in the Army, I joined the National Guard and was attached to an aviation unit, Hueys and OH 58s( I know I'm old) but I became friends with the pilots, and they all had "the stach"! Pilots!!! Always though about maybe trying for flight school but could never grow a great stach! Well that and I don't have 20/20 vision. I truly get a kick out of your vids. Thanks for your service and keep em coming!

First let me thank you very much for your service sir, much appreciated! Second, everyone knows that true power is granted to the chosen few who wear the stache with honor, you definitely should go with handlebars for future flights, I understand it helps add extra lift and additional control surfaces. 👍 Thanks for sharing the posts and commentary par excellent! PS, watching the C-2 shimmy at full throttle on the catapult made me wonder how it must actually feel? Have a great rest of your week~
