Christmas Glass Block Tutorial | DIY Lighted Glass Block Tutorial with Cricut

DIY lighted glass blocks are a classic Cricut craft that every Cricut crafter needs to try! I especially love making Christmas themed glass blocks, so in this tutorial that's the style of DIY glass block that I am going to show you. I like to apply glitter to my glass block using polycrylic, similar to how you apply glitter to Christmas ornaments. Next, I'll show you how to apply a vinyl decal, cut using my Cricut Maker 3, using the gorgeous Styletech Luster vinyl. We'll wrap up the craft tutorial by decorating the top with a bow or decorative Christmas tree picks. All the craft supplies I used in this tutorial is linked in the next section of the description.

Love this video. I used it to start making Christmas gifts. However, I used a glass bread pan with nonstick aluminum foil resting on top and slightly pushed in to catch all the drips from the Polycrylic. With the block diagonally across the top of the bread pan, the opening fits nicely so all the drippings are caught. I then poured the drippings back into the can. I wish I could attach a picture.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to put a coat of Polycrylic over the applied vinyl art to protect during storage and handling?

This is permanent vinyl so there's no need to seal over top with anything. In fact, sealers can actually get under the edges of the vinyl and cause it to lift.

I'm using the same file you posted but on an Explore 3. When I Ungroup the design to change the color, each individual line is not listed. The skinny horizontal and thick vertical lines are connected and the same color (and vice versa). Any way to make the skinny lines the same color? Same with the horizontal ones?

No, you can't split them apart without remaking the file. Sorry!

Did you check Home depot or Lowes? They are often not carried in the store but you can order them on their website.

Mine is from Hobby Lobby, but lots of places carry them! I would check your local hardware store like Steve suggested.

Also, if you buy from Home Depot they come in lots of 5 and are about $3 cheaper ea. than Michael's or Hobby Lobby.

Neat idea…well, probably not literally so neat. 😂 Is there a reason why you put the opening at the top and not the bottom?

I think the lights may get messed up with the opening at the bottom if the glass block gets moved, plus extra glitter everywhere! LOL So I probably wouldn't do it that way, but it could work if you wanted it to!
