I'm still having computer issues. The comment section loaded, but not the video -- that said, I've thought about you, and so many other wonderful channels who post videos and how-to tutorials, all weekend. My journals are done -- finally -- it's been a year, literally, since I posted on my channel -- except for sewing of the cover and binding -- and I think I'm procrastinating because honestly, I get anxiety just thinking about filming and posting -- my son said he would take care of it -- but I still have to film -- and due to my RA and those meds I take, I can't drink alcohol -- ha -- but just in my opinion I think they are beautiful -- and without you, I would never -- never -- have attempted to do paper crafting -- never -- I didn't know how to do anything -- you taught me how to purchase and download digis -- and when I was so unsure of myself in making things, you wrote me the kindest email encouraging me to try; that you had to learn, too, in the beginning. I say this all the time, but it's true -- your first set of tags -- biological??? -- anyway, they're gorgeous and cost $3 and I use them over and over -- in my own personal journals, as well -- and I am not alone -- people reference you all the time on other channels -- Verizon is our internet provider, and we bought the fastest one because my son plays video games with people all over the world -- and now his phone is "acting up" -- Verizon is advertising in our area they're going "5G" tomorrow, so maybe they've been working on the lines -- I don't know -- but it's not just me who thinks you're great -- I don't read them all, but I do read a lot of the comments, and they're so funny and often people post great ideas and techniques -- which you try -- and I love when you use labels. I laugh every single time and think of Sherry -- you also introduced me to channels and etsy digi channels I would have never known -- not many people do that because they have their own channels as a source of income, which I understand -- but after my brain injury, I became possessed by quantum physics and math -- game theory was introduced in 1927 with the greatest mathematical minds around the globe -- and they developed what's known as "game theory" which the premise is: what's good for the whole, is good for the one. And you exemplify that -- no one has stopped coming to your channel -- and you use kits from others, and if I like them, I'll buy them, too and then watch your video for inspiration -- math at its best !!! So when you get a naysayer -- kill 'em with kindness -- I would say shoot me an email and I'll send them one of mine back -- ha -- but my email won't load -- now on my phone either -- anyway, as soon as I can load, I'll watch this because the cover is a kind of soft cover made from a heavy-duty file folder -- and -- I saw the first one at Robin's channel, but I love your interpretation of the expandable file folder, and began collecting items to include with the journal, so people can add what they like if they want to -- winner winner left-over thanksgiving dinner !!! Ha. Be well, Patricia

Miss Rachel, I learned a lot about how to use a decorated journal last year as you worked through your Christmas journal each day. I’m so glad to see you are doing this again. PS: You also introduced us to your "Sis" Sarah, and you are correct, she is amazing, as well -- and -- on one of her videos she demonstrated how to use the journal binding thingy from We R Memory Keepers -- so I went to Amazon and they only had 1 left, and I bought it -- that was way back several months ago, and didn't open it until this weekend -- because I procrastinate so much !! -- but I did pull it out for this journal, because my finders don't do what they used to -- and my goodness, was she correct -- I'm so glad I bought it -- you girlies are amazing !!!!

First full sized Christmas journal for me, second soft cover though, and I like them just a bit fiddly doing the math lol! and the spine makes me a little nervous...making ephemera so ill need to go back and research how you do things, watched Wendy's video at least four times, getting old...haha! Hi Rachel! This video was great! I've never seen a "soft spine" journal cover made before. Heck, I had never even heard the term before. I'm looking forward to seeing you sew in the signatures for this soft spine technique next. I love the magazine pages and other decorative pages you selected for your journal here. It is interesting watching you attach pages together for the signatures. I;m learning a lot from you, so thank you very much! I really appreciate your time and efforts! TFS Samantha

I enjoy watching your process and figuring it out as you go. I just can’t do that. I have to have a plan going into it, but that’s just how my brain works. I’m sure you can do this in different ways, but the order I usually go in is -put down duck tape or clear packing tape to connect the covers to the spine (I do use a piece of thin cardboard like a cereal box for my spine) -glue down the paper or fabric onto the outside covers -glue down the inside cover papers -glue down the fabric for the spine both inside and outside -add metal book corners -sew in signatures (I like mine to be visible) I followed a tutorial by The Paper Outpost but mixed it up a little bit. She does an amazing job and has multiple tutorials. It sound simple... but it takes me many many hours to do this. 😬

The last journal I made from scratch was from a challenge (called a Craft Club Challenge by my dear friend Vivian at The Paper Letter Blog on her patron) I participated in where you had to make a project or snail mail from only using recycled or up-cycled materials. I used 3 cereal boxes stacked together for the base of the cover, fabric from a little bag that my new sheets were packaged in, Kraft paper from paper bags, and more fabric from old pillow cases. The only “new” thing I used were the metal book corners. I guess that’s the benefit of keeping EVERYTHING... I would recommend y’all to use as much recycled materials as possible. I’ve gotten to the point of making my own paper just from junk mail. It’s something I really really enjoy💕

so glad you are doing this. I just finished my first journal and now starting on my daughters. BTW, with that sticky tape, if there is excess you can use a talc powder and rub it on the tacky part which will take away the stickiness.. Is straw paper like a mulberry paper? I'm not able to find a paper that is called straw paper.

Just curious. I made a sticky mess the other day with tacky glue. Most just dries clear and isn't sticky but this brand remained super duper sticky after drying if you happen to kiss a little bit even when I wiped it off when I did it. Glues are so confusing to me

Hello Rachel. I "met" Sarah this morning, after I had my coffee with you. Thankyou, for all your tips and tricks. Seriously, I really have appreciated your slow stitching"series. I look forward, with great pleasure, to begin mine. I'm truly ashamed as I've got gourgeous linnens and some laces that had been collected by my mother -in - laws MOTHER. Then, MY mother in law, then gifted to me. I had them in a through the years. I had them neatly folded with layers of tissue paper (BLUE) I haven't a clue as to why you should) In any event, MY great Grandmothers ceder hope chest WAS GIVEN TO ME Before she went to heaven at 89 yrs old. Its age of the linnens has to be Approximately 200 YEARS old. (I admit, I thought I could have a chest FULL of MICE and their 5 years of generations with them) I waited for my husband to open it up. No mice. Everything was just as I had seen it last. Perfect! Other than everything smelling like cedar, I washed it all in the bath tub- with a product called "Blueing." The lace on some were very fragile. After rinsing with ice cold water, I had then lay it on the grass in direct sun. There is a chemical reaction, that turns the linen and lace to there natural color. Oh Lord. Rachel, Im So sorry about my " novel" 🤦‍♀️I'll stop here.
