Helpful points, it would be great if you showed what you meant by a Y, I think I know but if you showed it lit at night in comparison to one that wasn't decorated that way it would be easier to see WHY! I'm wrapping bare branches with several spurs, and your directions make good sense! Thankyou

That was a little annoying that you didn't give a night shot, but timing could have been a thing. DAMNED good information. I did not think to double the gap. I don't have a splitter, but I'll try the double-gap method to make up for it. Thanks!

What do you mean, “always end at a y?” That may be clear to you but I have no idea what you mean by that. Yeah, y formed by 2 branches but how far out the limbs do you go? Also, how many limbs do you typically wrap?

Great question! For the amount of limbs wrapped, it depends on how many lights you have for the tree. Try to imagine the view point of the tree, do you want it to be displayed for people driving by? Or to enjoy from inside your home? Wrap the limbs with that in perspective. Really try to imagine what the tree will look like at night, you won't see the branch's that are not lit! For the Y

@@BigStarLights so what do you actually mean by ending on a "Y"? That you should finish a limb by wrapping a bit of the strand up a wee bit of two end branches?

@@stephaniejar3884 Yes, exactly. The base of the letter Y is the branch you are currently wrapping, the upper part of the Y is the split in the branch. Wrapping at least 6-8 inches will add a lot more life to your tree.

Sorry for the slow response! Great question. This basically means to choose branches that you can have a "fork" at the end of (i.e. one branch that splits into two, or even more). By having multiple Ys in the tree, it makes it look more full.

Next time dont power the lights when you are wrapping the tree , safety 101 don't play with live wires

Thanks for your comment! The lights are hardwired so there is very little risk associated. We choose to do it this way to make sure that we know all strings are working.
