Christmas in NYC 1999. Saw Dan Aykroyd and his wife at the Rockefeller Center. Dined at the Tavern on the Green and saw the Rockettes Christmas show.

As each year passes even though we're getting older I'm blessed I got to grow up when I did. I was 11 about to turn 12 in January 2000. Those times were just better in America. Pre 9-11, MTV was still going strong with TRL and music videos. Worse technology but more fulfilling, meaningful, simpler nicer times.

Back when drawing pads and game boys were vastly more common than any cell phone. It’s actually creepy how fast “smart phones” and “social media” took over our lives only since 2012ish. I haven’t had Facebook since 2014 and I don’t miss it at all.

I remember going there that year! I was 15, went there for the millennium celebration during winter break and there was a blizzard a day or few days before new years. I'm from LA and it was my first time seeing snow and I think it was well over 24 inches of snow that day. I remember flying back to LA on 1/1/2000, the plane was so empty lol Good times.

Rezmorize by Salt Tank is a trance/techno track that was released in September 1999, only a couple of months before the date of this video. Songs like that make me realize that the 90's wasn't as "vintage" as a lot of people think. Electronic music from the 90's was just WAY too ahead of its time to the point of being kind of jarring... When I listen to 90's EDM classics like Rezmorize by Salt Tank, or Mirror (Signum Remix) by Stray Dog from 1998, or even Offshore (Disco Citizen's Remix) by Chicane from 1996, it feels COMPLETELY out of place to me for the years they were released. The fact that this phenomenon existed ubiquitously in 90's, much more than any other decade in history, makes the 90's so vastly different from those before it. When you hear music from the 80's, 70's, 60's, etc. you instantly know what era it's from. But in the 90's music technology came so far that some of that stuff sounds like it could've been made yesterday. The 1990's really was the fuckin future. Still blows my mind, and when I watch old grainy videos from the 90's like these ones while listening to tracks like those, it's really something special. I can almost imagine everything in "HD" and put myself in the mindset of someone living in the 90's who saw the present moment as nothing BUT the future itself. VHS, PS1, N64, Windows '95, etc. WAS cutting edge and at the time I'm sure it really felt like it. It's no different from today. Sorry for the rant. The thought just seems so profound to me. I can't possibly do this with footage from any other decade pre 1990's because all the media and music sounded like you would expect: old timey and dated. In the 90's this wasn't necessarily so.

Fantastic video! If you want this video to be of more historical significance, I think uploading it at normal speed and with the original audio would be wonderful - it would allow us to hear what it was like, the hustle bustle and the music playing at the time. (Of course I completely understand it if you wouldn't want to do that due to privacy concerns, but it would be nice!)
