Old Jim shows you this old family recipe from the 1930's, as created by Old Jim's Father. - Jim's pudd is a delightful addition to any poultry or beef dish. It can be eaten hot or cold, or covered in gravy. A savoury, flavour filled replacement for Yorkshire Pudding, that's easier to make and tastes better.
Highly recommended for Christmas turkey meals. A seasonal essential for Christmas Day.
Makes: upto 8 segments.

I‘m from Germany and I remember a similar winter dish from my great grandmother (who died in 1980, when I was 7). She made a sweet and a salty version. The sweet version is with apples or dried and then watered plums instead of the onion, cinnamon and other christmas spices, and margarine instead of suet. We eat it with vanilla custard or raspberry sauce. The salty version differs only in the shredded (?) carrot and big potato (less water then) and - of course - the sausage (Mettwurst or Cervelatswurst). We eat it with apple sauce or Woschtsupp (sausage soup, the broth from the freshly cooked sausages after slaughtering). Thanks for your inspiration, I guess I will try to make it. In these times - expecting another lockdown Christmas - I need some happy childhood memories.

Good heaven's. I must try that. We have been cooking Yorkshire pudd for 70 years with our roast. This will make a good change. Thank you!

I grew up in Cornwall in the 60's eating something very similar which was an old family recipe. We used to call it hard tack, which did not impress my mother very much. Bloody delicious. Definitely going to try your version though; proper cooking. Nice one Jim and thanks. All the best from South Africa.
