The audio in this documentary is captured from Christopher Cross interviews. Christopher Cross talks moving to Austin to begin his career, early 80’s albums success, Grammy and Academy Awards wins, his admiration for Stevie Ray Vaughan and more.
Cross released his self-titled debut album, Christopher Cross, on December 20, 1979. Billboard Hot 100 top 20 hits from this album included "Ride Like the Wind" (featuring backing vocals by Michael McDonald), "Sailing", "Never Be the Same" and "Say You'll Be Mine" (featuring backing vocals by Nicolette Larson). "Ride Like the Wind" hit number two on the U.S. Hot 100, while "Sailing" topped the chart for one week.[2] "Never Be The Same" went number one on the Adult Contemporary chart. Cross, the album, and the song "Sailing" were nominated for six Grammy Awards in 1980 and won five.[13] Cross was the first artist in Grammy history to win all four general field awards in a single ceremony, bringing home Record of the Year ("Sailing"), Album of the Year (Christopher Cross), Song of the Year ("Sailing") and Best New Artist at the 23rd Annual Grammy Awards.[a] This feat was not replicated for 39 years, until Billie Eilish won all four awards at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards in 2020. In addition, "Sailing" won for Best Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s). Christopher Cross has been certified platinum five times in the U.S., selling over 5 million copies.

From the first time I heard him singing on the radio to present day, I have loved his voice and songs ❤ When I bought his first album I fell in love with his face❤ Then I discovered he wrote his songs, played the guitar like he does and I was definitely hooked ❤ There is not a song he does that I don't love!!! He is very talented and has gone unappreciated all these years!!! Well here is one person that tremendously appreciates you Christopher Cross ❤❤ Much love Christopher ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Sailing Never be the same *** (Played on the New Wark airport radio at my first steps in USA). Ride like the wind Think of Laura Arthur's theme (What a reference!) I heard Mr Cross in 1986 for the first time and he triggered a musical sensitivity in me. I'd never been a singer or a musician but I'd never been the same anymore after knowing the green album. A male artist able to write and singing such beautiful melodies can not to be a bad man.

Genuine. Listening to each of the Christopher Cross albums is truly an experience. The intensity that flows through his vocals with heartfelt lyrics absolutely takes me to a different world. I go between Doctor Faith and Take Me as I Am for my favorite album, but it’s really because the songs meet me where I am and hit differently each time. I’m a “late bloomer” Cross fan but have been sucked in ever since I listened to his other albums. The man is an absolute legend.

I have a newfound respect for you. Especially knowing your personality and winning five grammys was not easy then. I was/is a quiet guy myself.

I’m from San Antonio. I saw Chris Geppert’s band Flash open for the Jefferson Airplane. I also went to high school with Christopher Cross’s keyboard player who was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Los Angeles.

Christopher Cross is a wonderful singer and a brilliant songwriter, it's a shame that he and his career fell victim to the beauty culture, as soon as MTV Spring up add music videos for popular all of a sudden his record company lost confidence in him because he did not look like somebody from Duran Duran or some heartthrob just goes to show what a pathetic superficial world we live in where Talent is overlooked if your face and your body aren't perfect😢

I totally agree with you, Maria. Even with his few Grammy awards, it's not enough. He deserves so many more. He wrote also "open up my window" and "swept away" few years later and more recently "letter to my children" but he was already pushed aside from the star system. luckily, he has the recognition of his audience, people like you, Maria. Thank you, lady.
