What a fantastic conversation! I need to read Bath St!!! Interesting to consider the Macbeth's trauma, the notions of masculinity that drives and hinders, and Macduff's reaction to the death of his family. Perhaps we are to compare Macduff's reaction to Macbeth's. He's not afraid to express his vulnerability...to feel it "as a man." If the Macbeths were able to process their grief half as well, perhaps they would not have embarked on that bloody trail to get and keep the crown.

So "Hideki Smith" was not your first Young Adult Ghost (or rother supernatural) Story? Having a young ghost ("spoiler: he dies on page 9") is a brilliant idea, BTW. Just got my copy of "Hideki Smith" today, so the first 30 minutes or so fitted right in as a sort of preparation.

Oh no, I wrote many young adult books before Hideki: Darwen Arkwright (AKA Monsters in the Mirror) is pitched a little younger, but the Steeplejack trilogy, and Impervious (plus Cold Bath Street) all predate Hideki.
