@@sie85 he still held freedom as something magnificent and special which if we have to be rational, doesn't lead to anything good either because people interpret the world differently and that leads to fragmentation and breaking down of communication! Why do you think people swarm to form ideological unity and start worshipping gods and dictators?... because society is not based on intellectual freedom. Or if he doesn't believe freedom is leading at least to some improvement...why listening to him then?

I will say that I admire a man who had the courage of his own convictions, even if that conviction was diametrically different from mine. He was never to be persuaded of the existence of God, just as many cannot be persuaded that He doesn’t. What I do think is that a huge intellect such as he had, created his own credo. Incredible human being who was brave enough to live without hope. But he never despaired.

Knowing I’m just a big sack of organs and stimuli experiencing this blip of “consciousness” is incredible to me. Even the sensation of breathing in the air on a beautiful clear day, or cuddling with my partner, or seeing the sun set are all profound Life only has meaning if it ends. BorisW150 well there is still a journey even without god or an afterlife however the journey isn’t what comes after but life it’s self, if anything a lack of belief in God or an afterlife just makes the journey that is life more special because it’s all we’ve got so we need to cherish the life we have because it’s all we’ve got. At 4:12 it’s so ironic. “In fact one of my occasional silly thoughts is I wish I was suffering for a good cause. A cause larger than myself.” He goes on to say suffering for the liberty of humanity would be worth it. He is saying he wished for something that he spent his entire life attempting to refute. God sent his son to suffer and die for our sins in order to redeem and liberate humanity. Hitchens spent his entire life attacking that and even mocked it at times. And here on his death bed he grasped it for a brief moment, of how wonderful it would be. So tragic and sad.

I do think the concept of battling is relevant when you do have a chance of remission. For those with terminal cancer or degenerative disorders, I agree it’s just about you recognizing and accepting this powerful force of nature is outside your control and will overwhelm any response until you die, so you’re not battling, you’re just waiting and making the best of your remaining existence in the waiting room.

“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” Hebrews 9:27 (Holy Bible) I know why you’re here, you have your own mortality in mind. I want you to know, dear reader, there is in fact a God and after you die you will stand before Him and He will judge you. The good news is that since you are still alive you still have opportunity to reach out for His mercy by believing in the Son of God who paid the penalty for your sins so you don’t have to stand before God and be judged for your own sins. Read this story and think about it.....reflect upon it........question it....get the meaning of the story....then be selfish and ask what about me....who am I........and what next for me.... Rich Man and Lazarus 19 “There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. 20 At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21 and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24 So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’ 25 “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’ 27 “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, 28 for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’ 29 “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’ 30 “‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’ 31 “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”

ugh, when I heard that people were praying for Hitchens, I threw up in my mouth a little - mostly because I knew they would be praying that he would repent or some ghastly idea like that. What a horror to spite some one with prayer in their death throws. I've heard this directed at me too - people have said they will pray for me. And I ask them, please don't. But they are going to do it anyway without my consent and against my better reason. They that pray for you are going to make sure you know they are praying that you join their gods and churches. And honestly I don't know why they wouldn't - that's what their screeds tell them to do. But it's obviously grotesque and toxic and incredulous.

ever since we come to this side of our living projject we, become subjets to those that decide when our time is next, according to our behavior, in one way or another, as for myself, I have been already 20 times next to my death ,point starting from sicknesses to incredible fatal survived accidents, and as I am writing this note I may have a few days more to live due to my finacial conditions, I wonder ifnow, I have reched my time, so Dear Richard you may notbe a believer in this existence , but , you must know that Divinity decided that you had to start all over again, with less pepper and more salt. I also take thid opportunity to say good by to this incredible world, many rich people would need my health, but I must die because I don't have their wealth. but I believe strongly in Divinities, where Christ is King.

Haven't seen a bear in the wild or a lion in Africa get cancer. Sounds like your prophet hitchens had thousands of books, was a master in debating, denying there was intelligent design and promoted that we were the result of a cosmic accident. But he himself smoked and drank his way to God damned high levels of irreversible cancer and died from it. If he have had the intellect he would have known what substances to put in his body and what not. If a man who doesnt even know how to live this material life without getting sick or cancer, how the hell can I trust his viewpoint on the ineffable and on life after death and the continuation of conciousness. Ha no fucking way. Good luck, hope your path of religius scientism gets you cancer also.
