Still have my Og VersaTrigger and love it. My church bought the DWe, but once they realized they still had to put up plexiglass, they took my suggestion and bought the efnote pro 703, everyone is happy. Feels better, triggers amazing and sounds better for a live setting. DWe is great for drum cover videos, but giant room sound is totally unnecessary for a live stage. Those cymbals felt like I was playing on a countertops, hated them.

Im interested to see how the hardware and software hold up over the years. The v drums here have aged nicely over the last four years. Would have liked the option to atleast go wired incase the wireless module fails
@LukeKroeker
@LukeKroeker 6 күн бұрын
Wireless is very likely not going to be happy in professional settings. You know what has 0 latency, potential for dead batteries, or interference? Wires.
@whophead6837
@whophead6837 3 күн бұрын
Wireless is not much of an upgrade. 1.) drums dont need to be portable like guitars 2.)you still have to calibrate each drum so the time it takes to plug a cable in might be the same if not faster 3.) wireless needs batteries and good signal. The only good thing is that it looks cleaner

Here I often had to play in churches or small venues, and on a real set I would never get the real sound, because of my low hitting energi. Another thing to note on size from a mix engineer perspective, for studio use it simplifies needing 8+ microphones and the space that takes up. could also wack on some wireless in ears for a fully cable free experience which would be mega, if it plays the same as it does in studio as it does in a touring / gigging scenario it's a mix engineers dream.

Thanks for the great video!! Question: I noticed you mentioned the only 2 reasons you could think of to use an E-Kit are volume and space. I use mine primarily for ease of at-home recording; while it won't sound quite as good as a professionally recorded acoustic kit, I find it gets me pretty close at a fraction of the time, effort, and cost it would require to record acoustic drums. Since you didn't mention this as a reason to use an E-kit, I'm curious what you recommend as the best way to record drums for at home recordings?

What a video, awesome in depth review. From my playing on it I agree, cymbals are too weighty and loud. I fashioned the Meinl mutes to fit the crash’s and ride and just upped thr threshold which has helped the noise level and slightly feel but it still feels like hitting a trash can lid. Shells and kick feel amazing though, I’d bet money DW is working on lower volume cymbals

Thanks for the upload, and going through as many considerations as possible when purchasing something. E-kits have come a long way in twenty years. They are a viable tool for studio, home and even live recordings. The days of Steve Negus, Bill Bruford, and Neil Peart working really hard to get workable sounds and sympathetic textures for the bands they were involved in out of electronic drums was a lot of hard work and patience. I actually like Neil's electronic stage the best out of all the eras of Rush. I think his most complicated playing is on the albums Grace Under Pressure, Power Windows and Hold Your Fire. But now technology provides electronic kits that can closely replicate not just the sound of acoustic kits, but also their playability, so you can't tell the difference as readily. I just wish they weren't as expensive as acoustic kits, because I believe they shouldn't be. The price tag on this just does not justify it. You might as well by an acoustic kit, invest in sound proofing and mikes, and you'd probably save yourself a couple thousand doing so. An electronic kit should be affordable, because it's offering players another option if other conditions aren't available. I honestly expected it to be anywhere from £1000 - £1500. But no more than that.

Great video as always! It would be awesome to see you review an Ekit and compare with one in the same price point, say Rolands top of the line kit or something. Since Roland and DW are together now it wouldn't be that impossible. Just want to see how impressed with the current other flagship kits out there you would be, rather than having a low tier ekit for your comparison.

I allways dreamed about using kits like that in a live situation to be able to switch drumsounds during a set or even within a song. To go from tight/gated/techy/deathcore to open/resonating/jazzy in a millisecond.

This is how you make a bloody review video! Absolute f-ing banger! Left very little to the imagination, covered it all! I don't mind shelling out some cash for a quality item, but $15,000 in Aus is insane!

Sounds sick! At the end of the day, if you want your drums to sound good ya gotta learn to play good through hard work. That being said, since Chris shreds, this set sounds great.

Ooh, heck, that hit 100 db at some points, that's pretty loud. If the shells are regular DW (did I get that right?) then can I just fit the heads and other bits to a cheap kit instead?
