How To Build a Large Mirror Frame 1simple Woodworking Project
Hi guys in today's video I thought I would share how to build this simple mirror frame. If you have an old mirror sitting around at home this project is perfect!
You can make your own entryway mirror, bathroom mirror, any kind of mirror would work with this project and it only costed me around $7.00 for this one, which is 36" wide and 28" tall.
You can print free plans that will work with any size mirror if you want to try this project! theappalachian...
I also used a table saw, miter saw, and a couple different brad nailers to build this frame. Here are all the tools I love to use on my projects! www.amazon.com...
As an affiliate I may earn a small commission thru the links I provide.
Hope you all enjoy this project!!

Really like the frame, better than the ones I have done in the past. Two thoughts though. First, when sanding, avoid doing the joint edges (where the 45 degree joints meet). If your saw cuts a true 45, then any sanding will change that, making a rough looking joint. Second, when you cut out the notch/groove for the mirror to sit in, I would do a double cut, rather than have to do the chisel work. It's cleaner and quicker. I know this is not designer piece, but well finished will look good in most settings. Keep up the good work!

Also, I would add a few dabs of clear silicone caulking on each edge, just to secure the mirror, unless your cuts are so precise that they mirror cannot shift in the frame.

@@bruceduncan3646 Thank you. Doing research and I was wondering why people are not adding any kind of cushioning. Also, what to do if the mirror brakes. The way this is designed, it will be tough to replace the mirror.

Nice job! Fyi the method you used to chisel the rest of the groove would be easier if you lower the table saw blade to the thickness of the mirror and run the board through it would have a much cleaner cut and alot faster.

Would you PLEASE roll your thumb under the palm of your hand when cutting a miter. I was given that hint by a wood working teacher that had half a thumb. You could have saved time by using the the fence and setting the saw blade shallow to clean the scrap out of the rabbet I’d glue the joints so they don’t move with humidity Finished project looked fantastic

Currently doing my bathroom. Framing a mirror similar size form part of this project. as the mirror got some blemishes around the edges. I were not very sure how to proceed. Tried getting frame moulding but none available for a mirror of that size at local DIY. Thanks to this video , I know how to proceed frame the mirror now.. 5*.

@@AppalachianHomeCo why not cutting the groove more towards the middle and just sliding the mirror glass in the grooves, then fixing the 4 sides with the glass already in? i think this would be the fastest way. the mirror glass would stay secured within the grooves themselves and you wouldn't need to add extra wood on the back to secure the glass.
@keregg228
@keregg228 2 жыл бұрын
@@Calinn86 i had the same thought but you would have to do that before nailing and painting it all together. Nailing could break the mirror and you would then have to tape off the mirror to paint or stain it.

@AppalachianHomeCo
@AppalachianHomeCo 4 жыл бұрын
Hi! If you do not have those tools you can use a hand miter saw which is pretty inexpensive and good enough to make the frame pieces. I’ll see if I can find a good hand saw and do a video!
@chaddavis523
@chaddavis523 3 жыл бұрын
Come on now, you can get a miter saw new for like $300 and probably used on FB marketplace for half that. This video is for people who do woodworking. I would bet that 99% of people who have an inclination to do something like this have the tools they need to do it so it would be ridiculous for her to spend time on that in the video. And I must add, these videos she makes are free. You’re not paying for them to be so demanding of the product she put out for your benefit for no reward is ridiculous. She was very gracious in her response to you. In the future, one should pose the question “hey, I was just curious, can this be done without power tools?”

Hello, I have a 35.75” X 48.5” mirror. How do I know what size frames to use as I bought two 1X4X8ft and 1X4X10ft boards and made two-49 inch boards and two-37 inch boards which were too small. Any suggestions?
@AppalachianHomeCo
@AppalachianHomeCo 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! I would suggest doing the top and bottom frames 40.75” and side frames 53.5” long. That way your mirror will sit inside the frames 1” all the way around. Hope that makes sense!
