According to the OECD, more than one-third of adults are living with a longstanding illness or health problem, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, respiratory disease and diabetes. Chronic diseases are challenging for individuals and their families, the health and social care sector, and wider society. They impact quality of life and mortality, and require a large portion of the available healthcare resources.
In this webinar series on the Future of Chronic Disease in Ireland - Health Economic Perspectives, expert contributors will explore changes in disease prevalence, the rise in multimorbidity, consequences for patients and how the health system can respond.
This webinar seeks to define chronic disease epidemiologically, considers the impact of policy on health outcomes relating to chronic disease, and importantly concludes with a patient perspective.
The speakers are:
• Prof. Patricia Kearney, Professor of Epidemiology, School of Public Health, UCC
• Prof. Edward Gregg, Head of School of Population Health, RCSI
• Fiona Bardon, young stroke survivor and patient advocate
The webinar is moderated by Dr Ronan Glynn, Health Sector Lead, EY Ireland
