I was tried for treason and kidnapping. I escaped prison and avoided my execution. I saved the royal bloodline several times from corrupt evils. I met a frog, who was a knight sworn to revenge his fallen companion. I restored the legendary Masamune blade and exacted my vengeance upon the sinister Ozzy, Flea, and Slash. I traveled millions of years to the past, and layed waste to an evil empire of Reptites and recovered the Gate Key, and saved the human race. I was frozen in time for what felt like a thousand eternities. I met a traveler named Toma, to which bards sing of to this day, and visited his grave with a can of soda. I sewed many seeds, and helped to grow a great forest. I met a young boy, who loved his cat. I smashed the Black Omen and sunk it to the bottom of the sea, and defeated the tyrannical evil Queen. I tore through to the end of time, summoned the evil Lavos, and I crushed him, forever saving the future of humanity... in High Definition. In an alternate universe, this game was fully made and released. They were never issued a cease and desist. Life is good. If only...

Every time i hear this theres just so much emotion that sometimes tears will be on my face and i didnt even have any idea.....i lived a lonely childhood so as sad as it was i looked at all the characters in the game as friends.....and to imagine Magus had to grow up in this "paradise" knowing full well what it was and what will be is heartbreaking....lost the only family he ever had that loved him.....sorry haha just me getting sentimental here

Although I wish I played this as a child I missed the opportunity. I have a lot of fond memories similiar to your testimony from final fantasy and even as far back musically as donkey Kong country 2. I think the fact that this song is sentimental to you would resonate with the producer of this sound track, along with the developers of this game. Sometimes I wish I could personally thank these people for helping influence who I am today. Just how a dream is always more emotional or romanticized then explaining it, games like this with the characters, stories and music are romanticized versions of reality to me growing up. When I am unhappy with myself or life I reminisce on the feeling of mystery wonder and intrigue this era of games brought be.
@Soohable5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think this background music reflects what Magus remembered from Zeal. It is peaceful because he had a sister who protected him as a child. But it is also melancholic because it will never be the same. He lived alone trying to find a way to come back to his real present but it was too late as he grew up as an adult. Everything he had was like a dream, but at what price?

I just want everyone to know that the guy who made this remake was part of a team of people who were going to REMAKE chrono trigger with updated graphics and music for FREE. This was fan service by die hard fans, as you can plainly hear! Squaresoft CRUSHED this project by suing the small team that had no intention of profiting on this. This was back in the PS1 era. Still to this day, Square has yet to clue in that people were REALLY interested in this remake and STILL are. . . Imagine the whole game with real instrument music. . . What a shame this was CRUSHED. . . How sad. . . My childhood love cries knowing this. . .

My problem is, everyone talks about how they should remake this game and they go on about how there should be more sequels and stuff. But they forget about how if they did that, they could pull a Final Fantasy and ruin everything, I think even Square Enix knows this and I'm pretty sure that as a fan, I'd prefer them to just leave it how it is. But they definitely shouldn't forget about the Chrono series.
@GamerJayR9 жыл бұрын
A remake would most likely be the best option. Imagine how great the game would look on PC or on the new gen of consoles
@microfighterz9 жыл бұрын
I think you completely missed the point of my comment. You can't leave a series for a long time and them suddenly pick it up again. Think of Duke Nukem, Deus Ex, Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts and Perfect Dark: Zero. These series were forgotten about by the devs for at least 4 years and the sequels were absolutely terrible.
@GamerJayR9 жыл бұрын
meonroids Yeah but a remake isnt the same as making a new chapter for the saga. Just a graphics and music tune would keep the fans happy :)
@rfell_9 жыл бұрын
meonroids You can forget a series for 5 years and then make a good sequel. Look at Tomb Raider reboot, Deus Ex:HR, Fire Emblem (not so much forgotten but just shitload of remakes), Divinity: Original Sin (kinda forgotten), Wasteland 2, Diablo III, SMT IV (again questionable, since there has been many other SMT games), Kid Icarus, MegaMan (9/10)... Chrono Trigger remake wouldn't really ruin an experience for anyone as long as they keep the story and battle structure the same. There is always the "spiritual successor" thing too with games like Pillars of Eternity, Project Phoenix, Path of Exile, Xenosaga/Xenoblade... it's not really impossible to continue old series without fucking it up.
@willisan9 жыл бұрын
Meonroids and James Robson are both right. Most sequels fail to live up to the original installment *cough* Chrono Cross, Vandal Hearts 2*. I don't see the logic in changing what was a fantastic battle system into a crap new one. All I want is a remake for CT, FF7, and shoot, maybe even FFVI. Square-Enix should realize that the games would be flying off of the shelves.
@moctezuma1128 жыл бұрын
What is scary about this game is there really was an advance civilization before the pole shift and was all forgotten but left megalithic structures behind with no information such as Puma Punku, yonaguni, and the debatable sunken city off the cuban shores. "I believe we are a species of amnesia" - Graham Hancock I would love to witness how life was like during that time and not forget about it.
@ninototo15 жыл бұрын
Very interesting, thanks. But there were a ton of advanced ancient civilizations, like the greeks and romans. They had baths and flowing water! Things that were forgotten during the middle ages. This could absolutely happen to our civilization at any time, be it because of a nuclear war, or some kind of natural disaster, like a meteorite.

I would love this story redone. Just this story, no sequels, no sidestories or additions. Just the classic tale, updated in gorgeous graphics and with Yasunori Mitsuda again heading the music we love. With an in-game movie style and an anime-inspired feel, this could be an amazing, heart-warming, unforgettable trip through time with a small but memorable cast of characters a new generation can get behind just like we did when it originally released. When the story ends (well, in _one_ of the ways it ends anyhow - don't forget to add those to my idea, btw!), we know the adventure isn't over, and we still get to wonder just what they get up to, but ultimately we can be satisfied at where they leave us.

+Hiro Nocturne just no. the cutscenes and music and graphics are fine just the way they are. a moment in time that has aged well as a piece of art. the cutscenes and anime stuff from the ps and ports are garbage. leave the original game alone and don't devolve yourself into one of those people who always clamor for MOAR, MOAR, give me MOAR. The original game, unaltered. No sequels or spinoffs. That is how a true fan of this game feels.
@tracexl8 жыл бұрын
Jijenji I was in line for the original game at midnight. I was also in line for Tobal No. 1 day one just to get the FF7 demo. I've beaten 7 over 50 times, have tons of the merchandise including the spinoff games. I _am_ a true fan and the original release will always hold a special place for me. That said, I also welcome change, and would like to see what this new version offers. If it's not good, the original will still be there and be just as good as it was in 1997. Please do not generalize the fanbase. You do not speak for anyone but yourself, as do any of us.
@gjeipijampao8 жыл бұрын
+Jijenji I downloaded the iOS version of this game and was so disappointed when i saw the changes they've made. I played this game many times when i was a kid that i've memorized almost everything about the game especially the game's opening sequence, but the iOS version was all wrong.. the sound effects for the birds flying over crono's house on the guardia map (before going to the "wake up, crono" scene) weren't how they were in the original snes game (timing was off for the fireworks sound effects too). plus, they corrected marle's grammar when she was buying candies ("I want some of this" was changed to "these" ) in the beginning of the game. i know these are very small details in the game but i like chrono trigger the way i remembered it. i deleted the game from my ipad after just about 2 minutes of playing it.. but now i'm desperate to play the game again but my snes has been dead for about 15 years now... they don't sell snes in the stores anymore and i doubt i can still find a copy of chrono trigger for snes... i am planning to buy the nds version of the game (i hope they have it in the store close to where i live) i just hope i don't get disappointed again. I agree with you. I want the original game. unaltered. i don't even think of chrono cross as a sequel. but what's sad is, they've included new endings showing Kid (a character in chrono cross) as a baby in the newer versions of the game... so they've made it official that chrono cross (which is far inferior compared to this legend) is indeed part of chrono trigger.

This game was very successful and it was very deserving. I would go as far as to say that this game established RPGs as a valid genre in the west, because of the really good marketing they did for it. Getting Akira Toriyama (the artist for Dragon Ball Z) to design the characters for this was a good move too. Before this game only the real nerds like myself were playing RPGs, but this game made it more accessible without dumbing down the genre. Chrono Trigger was art.

Simple graphics, but excelent soundtrack, excelent gameplay and excelent story and character development. Phantasy Star IV, on the Mega Drive/Genesis is also an excelent RPG. To finish this list I'd say Final Fantasy VI. Although not every one likes it when they play it, it is a deep and well developed game.

Shakes Shigsm I grew up with a SNES but didn't have access to this game until I first tried it out in high school on an emulator, and my life changed :D It's one of the few games I'd speak so highly of. Sits in my top 3, no questions asked.

"Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times.” -G. Michael Hopf I am a 27 year old average man living in this world as of this writing. I am lucky to be living in the time where this game was released. But I am concerned.. We are living in the good times.. definitely. That means we are weak? With the chaos going on in this world, everybody with power wants to own it. I have a wife and planning to have a kid in a few years. But what will my child look forward to? what if the world will suddenly be in chaos for real this time? I'm trying to be optimistic all the time and work my ass off for a better future for my family, but the thought of sudden chaos can't leave my mind. My paranoia goes stronger every time it crosses my mind. This era of the game really translates the quote above very well. Everything was nearly perfect then everything fell from the sky. One of the main reason was greed. It could happen to us. and I just hope it won't. This song reminds me of that. It's beautiful yet mysterious.. I don't know what Mitsuda was thinking when he composed this but he did it and it's beautiful. I hope to whoever would read this, live your life to the fullest everyday like it's your last and just be happy, help those who in need and don't step on others. And if ever chaos envelopes the world for real, like the WLF said: "May your survival be long and your death be swift" Long life and no pain.

I believe even if that chaos does happen, it won't last for long and will be a learning experience for everyone, it might have further bad consequences or outcomes, but once that is done and over with things will get better, I wouldn't worry for your kid, just give them the right guidance for the best life they can have.

My son was born this year, I'm 33 years old and thinking the same as you. I hope his life is easy but I think he's gonna live through some harder times than we did. But don't fret about having kids these days, after all in a time with dragons, we need dragon slayers.

The sound of a Sitar an bells
@tirmcdohl18848 жыл бұрын
It's because they completely missed the point of the original. With the only exception of the chorus, this feels like it's meant for some generic middle-class jrpg town with a moderately big castle. The original was just brilliant: you could be stranded in the snow, in the desert or in the grassy fields, the theme would automatically make you assume you're bound to go through somewhere magical.
@thekeefer6907 жыл бұрын
There truely is something to be said about texture of sound produced in music,an infinitude can come from a single note,but the note can effortlessly be equated to the dynamic of a lifetime of human emotions.
@snarcastic44527 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I really feel like that strange, bright buzzing (sitar, as Gerardo Felix said) and the ringing sound (bells, again as Gerardo Felix said) along with the almost water drop-like beat MADE the original what it was: the theme of a magical and mysterious place, where anything could happen, all things were possible. While this one certainly isn't bad, and it's nice in its own way, I agree: it misses the point of the original, which I think was to be somewhat outlandish. To play it on "typical" stringed instruments is to kind of miss the point of the theme, from my perspective.

Man, oh man... This surely brings back some feelings... The point where the story gets its most mind-blowing twist, where you feel bad for Magus and all the shit he's been through and you get yet another reason to fight for. All of that mixed up with the best music in the game... Fucking game developers playing with gamers' emotions.

My son is 2. I can't wait to play through this arc with him. The majesty of the Zeal and the whimsy of its people, but layered with the insidious underbelly of avarice. t The numbing effects of artificial happiness by way of escapism and astral dreaming. How the perfectly innocent and good can be doomed by injustice but how spirits can still presevere if life is fought for day by day. Nostalgia or not, Chrono Trigger is magic to me and the feelings it evokes as powerful as many of the most significant moments of my life. This is a great rendition of a classic song, I'm so glad there are still so many people who care to preserve and listen to these songs.

The Kingdom of Zeal was my favorite zone. It's brief but profound. It was the zenith of peace, wisdom and technology in Chrono Trigger, and it was destroyed by hubris. It's a theme that strikes at the heart of current Western culture.
