Chaulmontet graduated with a law degree in 2000 and then started working as a lawyer. From 2000 to 2007, his primary focus was law; however, he spent his free time investing in his passion for watches, especially chronographs. By the time he began his Ph.D., he had already constructed his own movements, so making the leap to the watch industry was not out of the question. In addition to creating his own movements, Chaulmontet was an avid collector of chronograph watches, especially vintage Angelus chronographs. This brand has ended up playing a significant role in Chaulmontet’s watchmaking life, but we’ll get to that in a minute.

Chaulmontet is a prodigy. His prolific and intellectual work while at Arnold & Son and Angelus is remarkable. Great work getting him on the show.

Totally agree. Angelus does amazing work, while not to my taste, just amazing.

@@ryantannehill2830 he was at Angelus for a short window of time I think around the 2013-2017 era...but there was a very clear flowering of movements and novelties in that period!

I just COA'd my first... Hey, wait a minute, what so-called movements did he design?

@@tomasinacovell4293 maybe 3-4 for Angulus under his tenure but the more interesting ones to me were the A&S novelites which were almost studies in neoclassical movements: time pyramid, DSTB, UTTE, DTB, DBG, etc. Each movement designed specifically for a single model.

This was a treat - Sebastien is a scholar and his book on Chronographs is a must for anyone interested in these watches - and Balazs is the perfect interviewer, he is a knowledgable collector and great writer on vintage watches in his own right. Keep them coming - and thanks in advance for making Part 2 !

Chaulmontet's chronograph collection here rivals Jeff Stein's Heuer collection. I definitely would like to hear him speak more about his other watches!

Sébastien, my good man: how our tastes run parallel, most thoroughly WRT the very-late-'30s-to-1940s Chronos. The Angelus Chronodatos most endearingly. But the condition, overall & individually, of each timepiece is absolutely second to none. I'm not yet familiar with all of the timepieces you've covered in this vid, but it begs the question: where are the monopulsantes? Rattrapantes? Certainly you'll not commit such an atrocity as to neglect our HEUERs, & *gasp* our Universal Tri-Compaxes? I'll give you my full attention now. Thanks, fellas.

Bre irking is nice. Reporter checking time is uncomfortable. Better high resolution shots of faces would be nice. Much improvement is needed
