Video shows how to start an old Mopar when going by the book. When cold, depress the accelerator pedal to the floor once, crank engine - do not apply pressure on gas pedal during cranking. After starting the car it will automatically idle with the choke, after a while (depending on outside temperature) press gas pedal to disengage choke. The car should now have a regular, standard idle. I believe this starting procedure applies to most mopars from this era. Keep rollin' & check out my Facebook page: PodrozeKlasykiem

hello - what a treasure - I grew up with many of these cars and engines - my grandfather traded all our cars every 2 years from 1962 through the early 1990s with the same Chrysler Plymouth Dodge Imperial dealership please leave it as it is - the car will ultimately be more valuable and run as it was designed to - yes, adjustments will need to be made from time to time but it will be worth the small effort - I would strongly recommend locating a 1971 Chrysler Corporation published factory service manual and accompanying body manual - they’re not that difficult to find and will provide extensive detailed mechanical information about all systems -

Thank you for the detailed write up. Yes, i do plan on leaving it original. Have made plenty of trouble free miles since the rebuild, and can even get 17mpg @ 65mph on the freeway. The 2bbl has enough power down low, and i dont plan on any racing in this 3800lbs car ;)

What a beautiful car. The two door fuselage body is one the most beautiful bodies that came out of Detroit. Thank you for sharing.

Nice car! 383 is a big block. I have a 1970 Chrysler Newport Custom 4 dr ht with 235,000 miles - has cruise, A/C, power seats and rear heater option.. It has a 69 - 383 engine and runs great with higher compression than 70 or 71!

Very nice I like the green and those road wheels look good, since the entire car is very stock I think the fuel injection would look very out of place I would recommend a 4 barrel intake and maybe a edelbrock carb, when my car had the stock 276 rear gears with the 750cfm carb on a 440 I was getting 15-20 miles to the gallon its a little worse now that a geared the car lower put it performs much better, a carb setup is pretty simple and not much that can go wrong to leave you stranded, when you start adding more electronics and a computer system to a 50 year old car there can be problems, also a side note theres been multiple tests done that show a properly tuned carb vs any of the aftermarket fuel injection setups and they both perform the same and in many cases the carb did better, I understand maybe ease of starting when the car is cold but that's kind of the only benefit, I would stick with a carb setup, hope this helps nice car

Sounds like a fast wind starter. I prefer the slow churn of the original, part of the charm. Always started the 440 Chrysler's I had for over 20 years no problem.

It is possible, but i would place my bet on the stock starter, as everything else on this car. Maybe at some point it was rebuilt... thanks for the comment and keep rollin'

WOW, that's a beautiful car. I'm in love with the Fuselage bodies. Mopar or no car. I'm envious of your beautiful ride. What kind of storage facility is this if I may ask?

Beautiful car. Sounds just like my 69 Fury III, 440, 2dr HT. Waiting to find the 2 door was smart. Warning, my opinion, start changing the originality of that car such as fuel injection upgrade, and kiss any value it has goodbye. then its just another big old car that nobody wants to buy.

You might be right... these cars will start increasing in value a lot in the upcoming years. I'm pleased with the carb for now, and i just got the AC to work and hope to make a new vid sometime :)

I'm glad to see u have the choke thermostat hooked up , some people disconnect it just because they like to hear the starter turn a lot 60 million pumps on the gas pedal that's stupid Mopar haters do that they must be ChevroGAY and FORD loving moronheads

Close your eyes and listen to the "music" of the cold start. If you can't tell its a Chrysler, then you either know nothing about cars or are not from this planet, LOL!!
