Many of us know that 滚水 means boiled water. This has a historical significance. In the old days before tap water was considered safe for drinking, households boiled all their drinking water. People in rural areas also get water from streams and wells. Hence 滚水 was used to differentiate boiled and unboiled water. However, over time, 滚水 is now used to mean plain water that is safe for drinking. BTW, scratch the head in Cantonese is "ngau" 头. But on two or more occasions, the 女婿 in the video said "owl" which is a 懒音. Today's HKG people use 懒音 extensively, influenced by what they hear on TV. It's only news casters that pronounce the words more accurately. When someone is correct, please say "ngam" instead of laziily saying "arm".

樹榕 is rubber. I call 橡筋 as 樹榕仔 ☺️ We also say 「閂燈」 as 「閂火」。 My cousin (Malaysian) who studied in Sydney last time staying with a HK flat mate. They went out and my cousin told her HK flatmate that she forgot to 「閂火」when she got out. Her friend was totally freaking out and then only realised my cousin meant she didn’t switch off the light, not the stove 😂

Thanks for your video. Yes it's so funny....i also speak broken cantonese though i'm a M'sian cantonese. Thanks again so funny !
Hahas.. my wife is from Guangzhou. We have the same situation with you. But now she totally understand. When we fighting i always say 'mo bin lo'. And then she always angry with my words
滚水 means plain water (Hokkien/Hakka). 熱 (热) 水 means hot water (Cantonese) . 暖水(半热, 少热) means warm water (just a little little bit hot) (Cantonese). The easiest way is just order 礦(矿)泉水 bottled mineral water (warm or cold 暖/冻; warm here means normal room temperature). These words are commonly used in coffeeshop (kopitiam·) 茶餐室 (or 茶室) when u order "sky juice = drinking water, in Mandarin 白开水" drinks especially in KL. I hope these are correct, and are helpful to y'all.

@@MYHongkie But when you come across foreign workers (mostly from Myamar n Indonesia) taking order of your drinks in Chinese coffeeshop, they only know the Malay words : hot = panas , cold = sejuk, water = air . Hope these words help.
@leongkem36963 жыл бұрын
@@MYHongkie Just for your info. If u go to mamak restoran (Indian muslim restaurants) in Msia, u have to speak Malay bcos restaurant owners hire foreign workers (mostly from India and Bangladesh; they learn some Malay words) to take orders. If fact, all Malaysians speak English bcos we study at least one or various, or all subjects in English language from kindle garten to Form 5 (= O level) , depends on the type of schools. Medium of instruction in Colleges n univ are all 100% English. Coffeeshop owners speak English too but they seldom take customers' orders, too bad.
