“6foot3 and maybe a quarter inch bigger”... If you asked any weak rapper today to rhyme with this phrase, they would lamely use the tired and polarizing “N” word. Chubb-Rock rapped to unite people and spoke the truth, but in a way that fit all audiences. Few, if any, like him are around today. Chub, in 2019...you are “Still a UNIQUE FiGURE” indeed!

__"...than last year, but still a unique figure!"__ Overlooked artist and good times - right in the middle of the crack era - with great, lyrical ability and still relevant message; even the way he smoothly integrated a tribute to 16 year old Yusef Hawkins: murdered by racists in Bensonhurst, BK the year before which resulted in much unrest.

What ever happened to this positive hiphop. Now everybody wants to be a drug addict or gangster. At his time there was room for any kind of rap style.
@doctorworm37353 жыл бұрын
1996 saw the release of "Ready to Die", and "Enter the 36 Chambers. By 1996 Sony, Time Warner, and Universal had cornered over 90% of the all of the music in the "music industry". The overwhelming success of the above mentioned albums led to these record labels pushing for that type of sound to be reproduced and therefore weakened the 2 remaining elements of HIP-HOP at the time (The emcee, and the rapper). These labels did not care to promote the culture, and so did not push, or see the importance for these elements to be included in their music. The legitimate HIP-HOP culture slowly became less and less relevant in regards to marketing and selling "music".
