No, it’s based on the story The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett, I believe.

14:22 Paul and Barry enter the building and walk up the stairs into the lift, Simon Harvey and Brian Patton run down the stairs stealing the birds, Paul and Barry come out the lift and walk up to the door, Barry gets the key and attempt to unlock the door unaware that it was open, Paul and Barry walk into the flat and into the room to find the birds were gone.
