The area around St James Palace in London has many ancient shops and in this splendid walk The whole area is rich with London history.
There's Lock and co. where they claim to have invented the bowler hat and Lobb where you can see the first Wellington boot.
Further along there is James Fox, where Winston Churchill shopped for over 50 years. You can even sit in his chair.
There are also many gentlemen's clubs and narrow 17th century passages leading to old stables and a club where Jimi Hendrix met his girlfriend, also frequented by the Beatles and Rolling Stones.
Joolz also visits the hat shop where they made the hats for Indiana Jones, James Bond, Dr Who and Downton Abbey.
There is also a visit to the Red Lion pub which has the second oldest licence in London.
All this and more in this splendid London walk.

@@DonBean-ej4ou Eh? How is the BBC "Communist" when the director is the son of a wealthy banker, ex Chief Executive of the Royal Opera House and a Lord and when the BBC airs many shows such as The Apprentice, Dragon's Den, British historical dramas, various quaint old British antiques shows, Match of the Day, American Football... You people are so deranged by overly right-wing politicians. Yea I find a lot of trash on the BBC, but that's just TV in general now because companies like Netflix and so on have taken over the market. If you don't want to pay the licence then just use a computer hooked to a large monitor and you can find FAR more good shows online than you can with a tv. Most tv channels now just stream their content via the internet anyway and often tv shows are rather poor quality as a result of low bandwidth. There's literally no reason to even own a tv anymore and in any case they don't even police it anymore really. I know tons of people with tvs who don't pay the BBC licence anymore and nothing has happened.

@@JeffDeWitt That's not what communism is. Communism is the political/economic theory of the populace owning property and the means of production. There has never been a Communist nation, only nations that have tried to attain it through Marxist-Leninist Socialism and/or State Capitalism (USSR, for example).

So many shops that have existed in the 1800s no longer exist. There was an upholsterer and cabinetmaker at 92 Jermyn street. His name was Richard Tait. He had royal patronage. My 3rd great grandfather worked for him. Floris is one of the shops of that era that has survived to this day. Alot of the 4 storey Georgian houses built in the 1700s have been demolished. Unfortunately we cannot go back in time but we can admire and learn from the past.

The oldest in London still exists. Ede and Ravenscroft made the Coronation robes for William III and Mary II in 1689 and are still robe makers to the peerage and lawyers. They are also general tailors making very good every day clothes. Also Twinings tea shop is still around, which opened in, I think, 1706.

Back in the late 80s there used to be a restaurant at 57 Jermyn Street called - imaginatively - 'The 57'. When I was a pianist doing those sorts of gigs I had a stint at The 57 and it didn't matter so much what I played, as long as I played extremely quietly. Most boring three hours of my life. Definitely not boring was on the way to this gig one night I was on the Piccadilly Line, passing through Kings X on the night of the fire. There was smoke in the tunnel and a lot of stopping and starting but we got through. It wasn't until I was at the gig that I found out what had happened....

Tremendous. I worked for 10 years in the building across the road from Berry Bros & Rudd, you picked a great day for the video, brings back a lot of fond memories. Couple of things in that area if you ever choose to revisit; 78 St James's St, the old head of the conservative party (unbelievable interiors, the dome in the centre is spectacular), one street up, the final place Chopin stayed before his last public appearance; he was employed by the Rothschild's as their Paris-based paino entertainer in their upscale club (I forget the name, it was near the Champs Elysees) and further down on that street to this day is the headquarters of the Rothschild family office. Finally, Chequers pub, mason's yard.....well, I'm sure you know the connection and for anyone that doesn't, Sam Williamson covers it in his wanders round St James's. Thanks Julian, that was great!.

In 1999 I ordered an "Indy" hat from Herbert Johnson hatters. I actually ordered it from Richard Swales himself. He's the same guy who fit and shaped Harrison's hat for "Raiders of the Lost Ark". In 2004, I believe, he was mentioned by name on the Indiana DVD box set, and promptly retired. I keep the hat in a safe place.

Theres a hat factory in Brazil called "Fábrica de Chapéus Cury" . They claim to be the manufacturer of Indiana's hat. It's situated im Campinas, São Paulo, near to where I work.

Dude, just stumbled across your channel today. My fabulous family are all Londoners though many have passed away (including my mum & dad). Your guides are how I imagine walking around town with my dad (born in Camden in the 40's), would have been. Albeit with a Cockney accent & some colourful language). They're brilliant. Thank you so much 🙏🏼

Every Sunday morning (here in Chicago) my son and I check your channel. Another great upload today. Loved the rolling video too, but also a big fan of the scene change songs. Well done as always. We’re planning a trip to London in July 2019 and are hoping to do a small guided pub tour with you. We will be in touch! Keep the videos coming.

PS have you done a tour of the Barbican yet? My wife, a professor of design brings Uni students to London every other year to tour that and other sites. Would love to see your take on it (you’ve also given her plenty of ideas for sites to take the students and teach)

A shop I always visited in London was 'Trumpers' in Curzon Street. I'm female but I just loved it. Such a beautiful place with delicious lotions and potions
