FINDERS BEEPERS HISTORY SEEKERS

Жыл бұрын

Archibald Sinclair, 1st viscount of Thurso sat with his friend Winston Churchill night after night planning strategies for war deep on desolate moors of the Scottish highlands, however this grand lodge now lays abandoned but still holds secrets and history unseen for years! Names like Churchill , Lloyd George and Coco Chanel all visited this wonderful highland house before it was left forever
Come with Matt as he walks 9 miles with Beeper Bear the dog to find this lost piece of history

So I don’t have to answer the same question 3000 times… Andy is not in this video as he sadly died in a pigeon / Anus related incident! However as he is the messiah he will be back in a few weeks 😂

The medal ribbons on the jacket are WW1 from left to right 1914 star the rosette denotes the recipient served under fire of the enemy between 5th August to 22nd November 1914. The British War medal and Victory medal the final ribbon looks like the OBE but I can't be sure Sinclair was Churchill's second in command from the beginning of 1916 when Churchill took command of the 6th Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers

That was a truly amazing explore, Matthew. What an absolute shame that place has been left to decay so badly. All those mementoes, furniture, uniforms and documents slowly decaying seems an insult to a man who served this country. I did some research and thankfully a lot of the 1st Viscount's papers were given to the Churchill archives. The burnt documents were probably the result of a fire in the laundry above which the documents were stored. Many of them were destroyed by the fire and water from the firemen's hoses. But it's heartbreaking to see so much remaining in the castle being left to rot. Thank you for bringing us along with you to witness it all. 🙏🏼🙏🏼👍👍

Brilliant video. Did you miss the connection.....there were a couple of old large paintings/photos which showed a splendid older man in a dress tunic with fringed epaulettes - very possibly the red dress tunic you found. And YES, there is stuff of military (and possibly national) importance that should be preserved. The word you couldn't work out was "Conservatives" in the telegram about Lloyd George (who didn't know my father 😉). That alone is an important piece of political history. Is there any organisation you could contact to help get a specialist to at least see if anything is worth preserving. The Gentleman's grooming case (with the bottles) is worth a bit - as we're the smaller ladies ones. There's so much good stuff in there that doesn't need to end up in the wrong hands or be stolen by robbers. Andy would've looked so good in those hats too - there was even the green plain one to make him look exactly like Baldrick. ☺️

Hi, the item at 8:07 is a knife box as in carving knives. I think sometimes there would be various items of cutlery stored in there. This could be such a beautiful home, such a shame. All of those important documents- incredible! Just think of the history that’s just laying there 😮 I think I saw a post on Facebook of these uniforms, I can’t remember if it was a military or genealogy site, was it you? It was from someone who said that they made a career out of exploring? Like you say all of these things need saving, if not for the family but these are things of National interest. My heart is in my throat when Bear chased after that pigeon 🙈when I hear Bear rummaging around, I’m so worried about his paws 🫣☺️there’s always so much broken glass. The gentleman’s grooming set at 38:13 - the word Clarry , could that stand for Clarridges I wonder 🤔 Sinclair has one hell of a biography, including being a liberal minister, in 1930 was a chief whip , worked on the land registry and “tartan book” which addressed Scottish devolution, later becoming Secretary of State and at one stage was a contender to become Prime minister! Surely the powers at be could force this property to be made a heritage site! Judging by your voice you feel the same- once it’s gone it’s gone !!!! 😡😡😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬 my blood is boiling. Looking forward to your next explore stay safe

That was SO interesting! Those old Uniforms were amazing! Did Bear grow up with a Cat? I truly don't think he knows he's a Dog ( the way he crawls UP things, & hunts birds, etc)! But, he's a good Boy listening to you when you give commands! 😊Great Video, very glad you both survived!

8:24 the box is a silver wear box. The uniform jackets the brown one is army officer tunic last time it was worn was a funereal with that black arm band. The other i commented on FB i said it might be a highlands guard tunic but it might be a formal dinner suite it has a Napoleonic look about it witch i would say was formal wear. The caps are ww2 the red and white check is Scots, im also sure it was the same for the RAF boy entrance. Second Tunic defo Scots guard dinner tunic. Great video how you got in and out without been cough is mental lol

Full of history and countless memories were made in and around this place. It looked like some of the photos were at Thurso Castle and or Henderson House in Wick. Bear wondering about was making me nervous on the dodgy flooring! The many generations of the Sinclair family are well known locally and one of them rubs shoulders with King Charles!

You are right. What a shame so many items in that house are left to rot and not in a museum, especially those military hats and uniforms. I'm going to ask another question, Matt, I bet a lot of us have asked...why didn't you drive, that's a hell of a walk! Yikes, if that bath is lead, I wouldn't be touching it!
