his lyrics are so horribly sad, while they seem toxic, after he talks directly to Herself, she can be heard harmonizing with him after she hugs him, trying desperately to remind him she's not fully gone, but he just cries because he thinks she isnt. most of the notes at that point after his solo are red, meaning theyre not your notes. they're hers. she wants him to hear them. but his grief keeps him from understanding. Divide's story makes me cry, i hope i'll leave a mark like he did, that i inspire someone to finish what i started, and if i do i'll always be proud of them for doing it

Some things I though about watching this: It looks like the setting is inspired by the mirror hall from Sonic Generations The glass shattering at S.B.'s notes remaining behind the glass most likely means he's staying in the "normal" universe The ending after the solo lyrics seems less confrontational than the rest of it, perhaps some form of acceptance?

I love that at 2:56, he does his own version of the "ooh yeah, haha!" thing that bf does sometimes

Details I've notice/seen in comments compiled bar the incredibly obvious i.e it being about grief (this is a long one, #16 is my personal fav idea): 1: The icon changes several times based on SB's appearance / the tone of the song. ( 2:03, 2:57, 4:05, 4:48 breifly) ----- 2: Red notes are present only before SB's soliloquy (representing the loss of gf) ----- 3: During the soliloquy, at the "Just" of "... Just long enough to see...." GF's voice is heard harmonizing with SB ----- 4: The part you play at this point also isn't bfs voice, it's gfs (or maybe a mix?) ----- 5: GF ghost on "...long enough" ----- 6: SB counts down since gf isn't there to ----- 7: "Silly Billy" is a nickname given to By GF ----- 8: During the solo, the song shifts to major during the lines "...proud", stepping down to minor again as he goes down to "...are of me" During the "Just long enough to see" GF adds what I thinnnnk (working with no sheet music here) a 7th to add that "wholeness" that part has. This passage also makes you think it will loop back to the first note of the passage, where it instead holds the note just before (2nd? or maybe not at all) and goes up a half step on the "...My..." back down to the 2nd, never resolving, at "...way...". tl;dr of that passage is it's really good musically to convey loss/tragedy, it not only shows you the rare happy moments of the song, but doesn't let you go back to them, worse yet it just reminds you of what's missing (like a lost love one). Could be reading too into it though. ----- 9: at the very start silly billy does the mic throw (similar to the scrapped anim in base game, just from a front view and a bit more ominous) ----- 10: the mic glowing red at that point COULD be GFs presence in there, I don't know the lore for certain but the only other times we see red is with gf (but it doesn't glow like this in the solo so idk) ----- 11: The "proud of me" motif appears several times before the big one ----- 12: when he transfroms into mini SB, he twists into it, which could just be for pure insanity, but I see it as the form we see mainly IS twisted, and to get back he has to "unwind" himself. ----- 13: During the last part of the soliloquy, the camera fades away from him showing slowly that we're seeing SB behind the shattered mirror, the cracks appearing like bars/chains holding him in, with the blue/purple vortex swallowing him in. Like how one swallows themself in their own grief/pity, and how they've imprsioned themself in their own mind. ----- 14: It's noted in another video from an animator that him pulling his shirt on the lines "...you are of me..." is a tick, which explains all the holes in the shirt. ----- 15: SB's height gain is from his loss of innocence, since that's the OG reason why BF and GF are tiny compared to others in base game, so him reverting back down could be similar to the stage of grief "denial", where SB tried to go back to his original self before the loss. (doubles being frequent representing the covering up of emotions, hence the more pulsar/jump feel to this part? it ending in "oh yeah ahah - an actual line Bf has - could be a last ditch effort to maintain the form or it just sounds cool af) ----- 16: Perhaps each "face" change is a stage of greif in itself, with the small form being denial, the rabid form being anger, the more calm form being bargaining, vocal form being depression (hence why SB looks for validation from GF), and the final form being acceptance (hence the song ending, the notes turning only blue, and also in this part that low monster-like voice double goes away) ----- 17: while probably unintentional, his eyes being always shaded and him always smiling can be seen as a "forced smile" to hide the grif, with his shaded eyes showing his real pain but considering the character came before the song/idea I believe this unintentional Sidenote: the only time his smile breaks is in the line "...*you* are of me..." - so only when he directly refers to gf does he actually frown. ----- 18: BF has unique hold note animations for emphasis notes, they mirror silly billy slightly - but these seem to only happen at the start. (forgotten maybe?) will edit as I learn more - all and all top 5 songs in FNF modding IMO, even top 3

Yourself rly is tragic; he's smiling the entire time until the line about making Herself proud of him. Literally tugging at his own heart and going so hard he shatters the glass behind him, but when she finally responds and sings with him, he drowns it out because that's just how far he had to go to reach her in the first place, pretty well affirmed by the purple that becomes more vivid when she starts singing (literally combination of bf and gfs blue and red) fades just into blue as that section comes to a stop.

The atmosphere for this is so wonderfully charged in all kinds of ways. Yourself captures a lot of BF's usual energy, but even beyond looks something's very clearly snapped in his mind. The smile is either forced to try and keep things light, or a default position for his face that betrays the maelstrom welling up in him. He's lost any kind of restraint he has in his posture and poses in an effort to capture your eye. All that being said, it feels like Yourself isn't outright trying to be hostile so much as he is desperately trying to change course, either by making sure BF never has to see his girl die like he did, or by taking over BF's life to do it himself. It gives off the feeling that all he wants to do is make the suffering and heartbreak worth SOMETHING, otherwise he chased a tainted dream that cost him everything, including his love, for literally nothing.

I just commented to say that i was absolutely shocked when i realized that the "stay awake just long enough to see" is not only about death, but also about how divide died in his sleep, portraying sleep as death and staying awake as a last effort.

Sad fact: this was technically made by Divide (some people call him Divine) Divine was a modder/dev for sonic.exe. But one day, he died in his sleep from cancer. Apparently though, someone saw his sketch of this alternate boyfriend character, and made a whole mod about it. While the lyrics do reference girlfriend, it also references Divide and how If Divide was alive right now, he would be proud. And the stay awake part references how Divide died in his sleep, saying for him to stay awake to see what he had created. Edit: this isn’t copy and pasted, I wrote it all myself. It took like 10-15 mins tbh

i'm so glad this mod isn't just edgy for the sake of being edgy; it's about grief, not being able to move on from a loved one passing away, and the depression and sometimes anger that comes from feeling that way. not only that, its extremely well drawn and the music is amazing. i love the little touches like the notes reflecting into the mirror when yourself sings, and the microphone flashing red and being able to see girlfriend surrounding yourself in the singing section. this might be the best mod i've seen yet, i would play it but i have a mac, so watching gameplay will do for now.

I like that from 4:27 onwards whenever Yourself sings you can actually hear a bit of BF's voice in his (a higher bf-like pitch). It's like he's getting so into the song and the mood that he starts to get genuinely excited and happy again, just like how his younger self was.

the fact that this was basically the last BIG fnf mod update before the main update came out, is really beautiful. It really does feel like a perfect final send off, with how long it is, the characters, the music itself, and the fact that some of this song, if not all of it is dedicated to divide, is truly just.. beautiful. I like to think that this really is the true final song for fnf modding. after everything that BF has been through, it all traces back to him. Truly a wonderful sendoff, even though it wasnt supposed to be.

what's really interesting to me is that after He sings, shattering the mirror behind him and temporarily losing his connection and grasp on Herself, all of the red hues drain from the palette (even from our BF). She's so important to both of them that they became duller just losing Her presence.
