This is THE fall movie! So glad you enjoyed it Chu! In the book after Amy scolds Laurie, he tries to write his opera with Jo as his heroine but he can't. While looking for inspiration in Jo he can only think of her faults and quirks he doesn't like (like she said he would), but then his mind conjures up a blonde heroine. The more he writes about her the reader can tell he is falling in love with Amy. By the time Laurie reunites with Amy, he has fallen in love with her and only loves Jo as a sister. This is the first adaptation, that in my opinion, did Amy justice and it's all thanks to Greta and Florence.

Love this film and your reaction! Saoirse Ronan is the actress that plays Jo, she is insanely talented. If you haven't seen "Atonement" yet you need to! A beautiful, heartbreaking film with Keira Knightley. Saoirse is in that as well and I have never hated a 13 year old more 😅 pretty sure she was BAFTA or Oscar nominated for that role

Laurie loved Amy and Jo most of the girls, but he loved all of the March girls. They were all kind, talented, loving, and beautiful. He knew from the moment he met them that he was supposed to be part of the family. He could’ve fallen for any of the daughters. He just ended up forging the closest bonds with Jo and , eventually, the closest bond with Amy. It’s a beautiful story of a man who knew where he belonged and with who. He just didn’t know how he fit, but everyone always knew that Laurie was the 5th March ‘kid’ from the moment he met the family.

I read this book years ago. It's a classic all over the world. When I watched this version the first time I was unsure. There have been quite a few movies of Little Women over the years. They follow the story the way the book is written: in chronological order. I loved the pacing of this movie, how we got the flashbacks. I also love how animated they all were, acting goofy with one another and playful and teasing. It feels so real--and I suppose it is, since is based off of Alcott's family. I appreciate how much you loved this movie and understand how difficult it was (and can be still in many parts of the world) for women's livelihoods.

I have seen both people who have shipped Amy and Laurie and those who have wished that Jo and Laurie would’ve ended up together, and I understand both sides. Jo and Laurie have this deep, unique bond and understanding, humor and inside jokes that they couldn’t have with anyone else. In my eyes, they are platonic soulmates, but a little too similar to work as a romantic couple in the long run. In that way, Jo was right: eventually, they would have started to resent each other. I believe that Jo always loved Teddy in her own way, but it wasn’t equal to the way Teddy felt for her. She wakes up the important question: Do we love someone for who they are or do we just want to be loved? Like she said, the second time she would’ve agreed to marry him because she was lonely. When it comes to Amy, it was different. Amy had to love Laurie from the sidelines for quite some time, while Laurie’s love for her grew gradually. Their story wasn’t written in the stars: they bickered, fought, even, and challenged each other constantly. They were different enough to complete each other. There was - and is - tension, sparks and earthly and honest love. Amy is exactly the kind of wife that Laurie needs. And Laurie respects her and supports her the way she deserves. At least that's how I see it. Thanks for this reaction, it was a joy to follow.

Also that gasp when Amy turned down Fred took me out 😂 Also the actress who plays Jo is called Saoirse Ronan (pronounced Surrsha) and if you liked the Twilight movies, she was in The Host which was also written by Stephanie Meyer but a huge step up from Twilight. i'm sure someone has mentioned this before to you, but based on direct quotes from the author of the book, she was most likely queer. this book was based on her life, with jo representing her. Louisa May Alcott said things like "i feel like the spirit of a man wrongly put in a woman's body" and "i've fallen in love with many women but not with any man" or something along those lines. she remained single for the rest of her life, but jo's story was changed

I am a huge fan of Little Women (the book, all the versions of the movies over the years...). This is an excellent version. Definitely hits the feminist issues, which is so important and I love it! My all time favorite is the 1994 version starring Winona Ryder. You should watch that one too. It's not necessarily as modern, but all of the performances are so good, and the chemistry between the sisters is fantastic. It's the version that I have revisited the most and I love it every time. Jo and Amy really are very similar in personality. The difference is that Amy is more pragmatic, she's willing to follow convention and social norms to get what she wants and she has an easier way in life because of it. Jo is more rigid and uncompromising, but this means that she has a much rougher time of it. Both methods have pros and cons. Laurie and Amy really do love each other (eventually) in the book. They make a much better couple than Jo and Laurie would have done. Jo was right - she and Laurie would have made a terrible couple, fighting all the time.
