Setting up a new 40 gallon breeder aquarium from start to finish. I set up this 40 gallon tank with a couple groups of mbuna species, which are African cichlids from Lake Malawi.

Thanks for the welcome on your other video. Not me over here binging the channel. That 220G is SICK!!! I'm on the 2nd floor apartment of a business and can't tell you how envious I've become of those who have a basement for large heavy tanks. I'm soon setting up my 40g hoping to condense my three 5G breeders (lol don't at me, I'm a tank maintenance beast w my small tanks)

I see that you have many great tanks! Love Malawi. I got lake Tanganyika, it’s so nice. Maybe you can put some detail stones near the bigger rocks. I have that as well, it makes the scape perfect, more natural. Especially Dennerle River S, with Seiryu stones. Greetings from Holland

Really like your new tank, I definetly want to keep African Cichlids in a future aquarium, but as an ignorant on the african side of cichlids keeping i'm curious about the thing of overstocking, with this method don't you lose some of the interesting behaviours of cichlids? In the future will you explore also other regions of african cichlids? Like Taganiyka or West Africa

Nice rock work you made, Mbunas are fun fish. I have that 40G tank too, nice foot print. I just wish Aqueon made it into a 50G, 1-2 inches taller would be great, the current design has a squeeshed view.

Great set up. I gotta a 75g in the living room but i have 36g bowed with mbuna in the bedroom. Dont really have the room to go 75g in bedroom so im wondering if going to a 40g breeder is still a worthy upgrade. I think it would be 6 inches longer, give me that 18 inch width but it would be a few inches shorter but i hear length is better than height for their swimming needs.

I have peacocks and haps in a 100 gallon I've got mbunas in a 90 and mbunas in the 60 mbunas the 29 gallon love the personality of mbunas better than the peacocks

I've been trying to figure out why I personally do not like the african cichlids and I think during this video it hit me. no plants. I love live plants and how important they are in the tank. and african cichlids are always scaped with just rocks. it's their scape I don't like! Is it really the only option with africans?

Mbuna would eat/destroy any plants

Can use limbs, wood (assuming PH considered). Can use fake plants, mod them. Move them around/cover the parts that look unnatural, but can be some work. Just a little bit helps it pop though, depending on the tank.

i wish i would have bought aquaclears earlier on in my fish keeping journey. I honestly don't care for the seachem tidals. The flow through the media is not as efficient as the aquaclear. Once fluval makes one with the motor inside the aquarium it's over.
