In this Cid Highwind analysis we take a look back at Cid Highwind's story in Final Fantasy VII and contribution to the wider ensemble of characters in how he counterbalances the drama and dilemma with a brutal often comedic pragmatism. We also look at the anticipated Cid Highwind in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and how his character might adapt or change in accordance with the sequelised retelling of Final Fantasy VII proper.

I am most interested to see how they will handle Cid's abusive relationship with Shera in Rebirth. I'm worried that it might be censored a bit. And while I understand Square's hesitancy to do so, I think it would be a detriment to Cid's character development. I believe showing more of Cloud and the gang's reactions to it could be a great way to start. Imagine Barret defending Shera and causing an argument between he and Cid. There's so much potential.

Also, he's mostly just verbally berating her, he's not actually beating her, and she allows it. she understands why he's angry and frustrated and doesn't complain. It's kind of amazing the patience she has for his behavior . You lose this silent heroic virtue on her part if you censor Cid.

Yeah I do wonder about it. I think establishing the context of Cid's attitude (failed rocket launch) early and allowing the audience to understand their combative relationship is hinged around that event rather than some weird domestic issue will help. Additionally there is scope to soften the edges and make it more comical between them, and as you say, other party members to observe and comment on Cid's attitude. I think discovering that Shera was right about the rocket's issues later down the line will also help because it humbles Cid and shows his attitude was completely out of order.

@@alphagiga4878check out "Cid Highwind Otakon 2003." Guy does a full stand-up routine as our favorite chain smokin, spear twirling, pilot dude. He also did another one called Chocobo Rant." Dude nailed it perfectly. Also makes fun of Kingdom Hearts.

We all know that smoking is bad for you. But sometimes it really adds to an esthetic of a character. Cid, and wolfwood from trigun gun come to mind. With a crinkled up cig hanging out of there mouth as they contemplate there existence. I hope they just leave it in.

I like CH. He’s done a lot for someone in his early 30s, which is an age just old enough to be believable for the deeds while being impressive. Now, he’s a character who minds no politics in a game that is about eco politics, he just wants to do something he knows he is talented at. He is just laser focused on his purpose, he doesn’t hide his feelings, and that’s where his tragedy comes in too. A seemingly simple character but complex when you dig deep.

Would of been interesting if all the cids were a manifestation of some kind of godlike being throughout all the respective settings, not interfering too much but just overseeing proceedings

Great video! I would imagine, he will use a piece of hey like in Kingdom Hearts. Also, I think they will remove yelling he did at Shera and make him much more like his KH character in that respect.

Now I always thought that Cloud was the coolest but I saw myself reflected in Cid. He was the man I thought I would grow up to be. I loved the backstory about two people who are in love with each other, one so much shed sacrifice her life in order to make his dreams come true and the other who would give up all his dreams to make sure that his beloved didn't die, of course he would be too stubborn to ever say so out loud. And I always thought that he was mean to her because he thought she was too stupid to see how much he cared for her.

Cid was not a person I wanted to be when I was under his age, but now that I am older than him, he’s very impressive. That’s part of why I like him a lot.

I love Cid. I really did look up to him as a leader, even when cloud came back. He really stepped up to try and save the world. As for the smoking. I watched my brother play this when I was like 8, and even I knew at the time smoking was bad for you. Maybe they’ll make it so the squad is always pestering him about smoking, or something. Btw, your mic sounded really low in this clip. Especially in the end of the vid where the sound of the music overtook your voice. Just a heads up for next time. Deuces !

some people think cids an asshole...he's a human one that we can all identify with, despite seemingly hating shera he doesn't leave and continues to care for her despite her ruining his dreams, most people in that circumstance would just leave but he stayed , he still loves her. hes trapped in his own failures he's complex. I love how people point to cid being the asshole in the story while literally playing as terrorists who've murdered thousands of innocents, all cid wanted to do was fly a rocket in to space .

Cid is a Chad alpha. One of my favorite characters. It seems, though, in FFVII: Rebirth that they have decided to emasculate him so that it fits in the whole woke feminist agenda.
