CID welcomed Abby Maxman, CEO of Oxfam America, to speak on "Ending Poverty and Injustice Starts with Gender Justice and Rights for Women" as part of CID's Road to GEM 2024 event series in the lead-up to GEM24 on May 1-2, 2024. This event was co-sponsored with the Women and Public Policy Program.
Abby Maxman spoke to Oxfam’s work and advocacy on gender equality around the world to ensure every person can thrive regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation. She spoke to how advancing transformative feminist leadership can lead to women being change agents to defend their rights, control their time and resources, and shape their own destinies free from violence. Oxfam supports women and girls in countries affected by conflict and support men to challenge harmful gender stereotypes, reimagine masculinities so that they are rooted in care, and shoulder more household responsibilities. Oxfam strives to become a feminist organization that reflects critically on power and patriarchy in our actions and culture to fight inequality more effectively around the world.
