Awesome! I joined a local group that meets at a cigar bar once a month, and asked the place about getting a few boxes to make fiddles, and they were happy to give them away. Thanks for the link to the plans! I'm thinking I'll buy a pre-carved fiddle neck and fingerboard and figure out how to attach that.

Surprisingly good tone for being made with a cigar box! Nice work on the F holes. Those would be difficult to make I would think. Glad you made this video. I had Googled "Charlie Kimmel violin made with cigar box and broomstick" after listening to Paul Harvey's "The Rest of the Story" episode about him. I couldn't begin to visualize what it might look like. I also thought it would have had a poor sound quality. Obviously, I was wrong! Charlie built his instrument with only one string, btw, and played all four string ranges on that one string! I'm a violinist, and while I know this could be done, it would be incredibly difficult. Anyway, thanks for the video!

What a shame I never saw these plans in the 1960s when I was a kid trying to make instruments out of cigar boxes (don't quite remember, possibly a guitar) and metal cough drop tins (a zither using elastic bands - I tuned it by pulling on the bands)... but as soon as I got a real guitar I forgot about DIY instruments!

I brought it to a Maker Faire and a young girl played it quite beautifully. I will see if I can find someone to play it and take a video.

How you made the string
@McFadyenAerospace4 жыл бұрын
Akala Jamir the strings are just standard violin strings you would use on a regular violin. They were the most expensive part of the build, actually. More than double the price of a good set of guitar strings from what I remember!

@@McFadyenAerospacehello sir. I just looked for the link, and it's either gone, or been deleted. Do you have any other sources for the plans? Thanks and God bless.
@McFadyenAerospace18 күн бұрын
@@fransoldman841 yeah, I see the link doesn’t work anymore. Not sure what happened to it. There are some links to fancier builds, but they need more tools like a bandsaw, which I don’t have. I have been thinking of making another one and doing a full video showing how I did it.

If I pay you will you make one for me and ship it to where I live?
@McFadyenAerospace7 жыл бұрын
Ruth Ortega you might be able to find a builder closer to you, but when I make a few more, i can let you know. This box size isn't as common, but I'm keeping my eye out for more.

No offense but I don't like giving out my location.

ROGUE X94 no worries. If you're in North America though I'd be able to give you a hand as I build them for a living.
