This has long been my favorite of their Christmas songs. The harmonies are incredible, as usual, and we get the treat of a Kevin solo. One thing about this video that has always struck me is how, in the second half of the song, Kirstin is frequently framed against the mouth of the cave, with the light behind her giving the appearance of the halo/aura that Mary is often depicted with in traditional Christian art.

This song is so powerful....telling about the Creator of everything that is. His humanness from birth to now sitting on the right side of the Father waiting...waiting to redeem His people back to Himself. I think Mary knew....the question is....do you..? Beautiful rendition by Pentatonix ❤

PTX was touched by the hand of God.

It's like a miracle that 5 people can put so much power and emotion and perfection into a simple song. You feel every note like a flood of water overwhelming us yet it's so all consuming and if it drowns you, you must still finish the ride. Somehow Kevin can click his tongue and you swear it's a snare drum. Love it.

About Kevin - he was strictly an instrumentalist when he started with Pentatonix. (saxophone, cello and piano - beatboxing was a hobby) He and Avi shared an apartment and Avi (who was studying prior to Pentatonix to be either a choral director or an opera singer) taught him to sing. Avi also adds to the beatboxing. Quite famously he won the award from the ICCA that had to be changed from beatboxing to rythmn section to give it to him as a verbal bass. Kevin is often seen as playing a minor role in this group-but he is brilliant. He is the child of immigrants born in America. He is an accomplished cellist, a Yale graduate and is proficient in Spanish and Chinese. He lived in Beijing for a period of time before graduating college. He introduced "cello-boxing" (doing both simultaneously) before joining Pentatonix and played music festivals on occasion. He is mult-talented.

That's about as unearthly as you get creating a complete wall of sound from 5 voices. wow

Once again, PTX = Perfection. I believe this song has some if not the longest sustained chords that PTX does. But there's so much movement with that chord. Stacking chords is a specialty of PTX. Kevin's solo just seems to draw the tears every time (doesn't matter the sing). He is a very special talent. Scott, Avi, Kirsten and Mitch.... Can they ever do wrong ? This is not just a Christmas song, it is a song about who Jesus is, the Son of God, God himself in the flesh, come to earth in human form to experience all the things, good and bad that we human experience so that he can fully relate to us. His coming was also to bare the sins of all of us, the whole world, on the cross when he died for us. It was preordained that he, being God would die for us and give us eternal life if we but believe in him and give our lives to him as he gave is life for us. So when Mary, his mother conceive him by the Holy Spirit, Matthew 1:18-22, it was a deliberate act of God, so that he could come to earth and die in our place to save us and give us eternal life.
