It's not nice, and it has nothing to do with techicolor. The film was copied so much that the color warped.

@@ki700 You are the only example of someone I wholeheartedly am ok with copying a reply into several comments, because the whole short I was thinking, "Well the top looks brighter, but something is off, the true original 1950 version wouldn't look as equally high def as the updated one. The one they claim to be 1950s must have also been altered" and sure enough, when the dress scene came on, you can see all the details in the bottom one that aren't visible in the top one and I realized the top is actually the scrubbed version that lost so much of the original linework.

I totally disagree, I can see why people like the DVD colors as they look pretty good even if inaccurate to the actual 1950's colors, but the 2023 remaster's more toned down colors look very pleasing, arguably moreso than the other remaster cause that version can get a little too bright for my liking, and it all looks weirdly digital for such an old film. Though while I don't throughly dislike the colors of the old remaster, I can't forgive how they butchered Cinderella's dress details or how they changed the colors for brand synergy with the blue dress she's shown in promotional material when it was supposed to look silver, which I'm not sure the 2023 remaster does right cause I remember seeing her dress more white looking in other releases prior to the DVD, but then again those remasters could be faulty as well, and at least the new remaster does retain the details on the dress as well as convey the silver coloring of the dress rather than making it full on bright light blue.

​@@Tam00393 it's not a remake it's a remaster, the "1950" version is also not the original but an older remaster made for DVD where they bumped the fuck out of saturation and used DNR to get rid of grain entirely which resulted in digital artifacts ruining the image that mostly don't hurt the image quality too bad, but is most noticeable and destructive on Cinderella's dress where the line art on her dress got pretty much erased whereas the 2023 remaster actually tries to stay true to the colors of the original print and preserved the details on the drawings. Now I get that one can look at the bright colors of the old remaster and subjectively prefer those over the more natural tones of the original, and if they didn't ruin stuff like Cinderella's dress I personally wouldn't have much issues with how the old remaster looks even if it's not accurate, but objectively it's good that we finally have a proper, or at least more faithful remaster that portrays what the original actually looked like back in it's time, proper preservation and restoration are very important, even something like slightly changing the colors cam change the feel of a movie completely, and it's one thing if we're talking about some kind of director's cut/special edition that's made to touch up on the film, but a remaster should only bring old films to modern audiences in high definition so that the artistry behind them can be properly appreciated.

I hope seeing the remastered version on its own looks better than the shadowy mess shown here.

So, we need to just get the VHS versions back... Regretting having gotten rid of them all now.

@@ki700 Its an opinion I still prefer the brighter and more vibrant look in the 1950s we get what they going for but people have preferences just because someone didn't get the look for what is going for doesn't mean it can't look good alright just because it didn't mean to look the way it did doesn't mean people won't find it nice

@@ki700 Saaaaaaaaame I realized something was off when I noticed linework missing in the "1950" version, and that it couldn't truely be the 1950 version, but it's like, people looked at the dates without looking at the clips and went, "older is better" and didn't even notice the mix up.

People are only pointing out that they like the "older one" better. The dates are sort of pointless to people's preferences. They aren't just saying they like the older one better for no reason, they are just choosing the one they like better of the two examples the video gave. It's brighter, prettier, and easier to see. Some of the finer details are better in the 2023 remaster though, I'll give it that. It's all preference though, has nothing to do with the actual dates. If the video took out the dates, I guarantee people would still like the top one better.

@roxyortiz8819 I liked the "1950" one at the start of the video before it even showed the year. I didn't even think it was the "older" one until it said it, i honestly thought the older one was the bottom one, so i chose the top one completely ignorant of the dates from the immediate start of the video. I just prefer the look of it better, as I'm sure many others agree that we just prefer the look of it rather than even caring about the date.

Hear hear! This is why Aurora is always shown in that hideous pink dress. Disney re-coloured Cinderella's dress blue in the 90s, and then blue became Cinderella's signature colour. Her dress was ALWAYS a shimmery white/pale silver, which worked way better with her skin tone. I'll never understand why they made her dress blue.

When I google Cinderella today, it seems that most artist (official or not) go back to the silver colouring of the dress when drawing Cinderella. Thankfully, that pedestrian blue is slowly going away. The problem is that Aurora is still drawn in pink.😒 She could easily go back to blue now that Cinderella's colours are finally getting fixed.

Can't say I see that, back in the 40's and 50's Disney movies looked extremely clean, so I'm not sure where the sketchiness you're talking about is. If we're talking about the 60's to 80's period though, yeah there's totally lots of imperfect sketching going on, and that's because starting with 101 Dalmatians the studio stopped doing the line art with classic cell hand made painting techniques and employed Xerox technology, which basically means they would print the pencil drawings directly on transparent cell sheets instead of redrawing the line art by hand, which is why you often see construction lines in those films and why all the lines were black instead of the colored line art you see here in Cinderella and pretty much all the films made in the early days of Disney as well as the reinasanse period where they started adopting digital coloring, though Beauty and the Best does have a bit of scratchiness to its animation.

It's not really the original though, what you're seeing is a digital remaster done for DVD back in 2005 which significantly brightened up the image and edited Cinderella's dress to look more blue, which unfortunately resulted in a bunch of line art on her dress getting erased. The 2023 version I closer to what the 50's print actually looked like and you can clearly see it in the scene of Cinderella running away from the ball, as the details on her dress are fully restored. If you prefer the 2005 version's colors that's totally fine, but it is not "the original" as Watchmojo is mislabeling here, and it's worth acknowledging that it's not a great remaster even if you prefer how it looks over the actual original 1950 print.

@TheStOne1 yes they did, learn about video editing first please. I have this movie on original DVD and saw it as a child on Vhs. All they did was edit the coloring. Don't believe me, buy the movie and do it on your screen to see for yourself.

Cinderella was always supposed to look like the 2023 remaster, it's the 2005 DVD which you see on top, as well as the merchandise that made her hair so bright looking. Also Disney had nothing to do with making Anastasia, but if they released a remaster it can be assumed her hair looked more brown in the theatrical print before homevideo releases butchered the colors as often happened back in the day, as film tends to get more reddish as it gets older, especially if not preserved properly, but that's assuming Disney remastered the film properly, of course the mistake could be on their hands.
