Of the nearly 5 1/2 million apps on the app store, at least a few of those can be used to film footage on your Smartphone. So what should you be using - an app on the App store like Filmic Pro / CinemaP3 or the native application that comes with your phone? Today we’re going to compare the advantages and disadvantages of both types of filmmaking applications!

Cinema p3 is not only better than the native but better than any other app. Only thing missing is proxy recording… I am sure it’ll be possible soon.

Great video on the whole. I wouldn't say an iPhone has an advantage over a standard camera in terms of having a 'very powerful processor' though. There's a reason most standard cameras overheat when shooting 4K and above - the processor is way more powerful than that of a smartphone. Standard cameras just tend to include less 'intelligent' features, but cameras like the ZV-E1 are changing that.

I don't mean that to say that the processors in other cameras are weak - the sensors in the larger cameras are leaps and bounds better than that on Smartphones. I was more referring to how the phone uses the processor and machine learning to process the image. If you know what you're doing, you have a MUCH better chance of getting an even nicer image out of a Canon, RED, Blackmagic, or Sony. The camera just doesn't do all the work for you like a Smartphone on auto. The ZV-E1 definitely is moving in that direction with many of the features they're introducing, but honestly when I'm using a camera like that then I'd rather keep it in manual mode so I can optimize it myself. Either way, you've got a great opportunity to get a great image - cameras these days are insane in the quality they're putting out!

Most cameras don't overheat when filming 4K anymore... Maybe that was true 10 years ago, but certainly not anymore. Full frame 1080p > smartphone 4K/8K On the other hand, I've definitely had overheating issues with some modern smartphones, especially in regards to video shooting and navigation.

@@alexwrThat’s just incorrect that cameras don’t overheat today. Even a Sony A7IV overheats when recording 4K, usually after 45 minutes. There are plenty of KZfaqrs whom have done such tests, I suggest you watch their videos. PotatoJet is a good one.

100% - I'm not making the argument that Smartphones are the superior cameras overall. Just that their "auto mode" tends to perform better than MOST camera's "auto mode" because they do more processing to the image in camera. Not taking sensor into account on that - higher end cameras have significantly better sensors. If you have the option between a Smartphone and a cinema camera, though, then 100% go with the cinema camera if it makes sense. My goal is to help people understand how to better use their smartphones to tell stories - not to throw away their higher end cameras. Most people just don't have access to the nicer cameras, so I want to see people tell stories on the camera they already own.
