For some reason James always had the exact opposite opinion on it than anyone else especially now and thinks it's just about special effects not about the atmosphere and memorable characters and moments. It's impressive that he even put it so highly on the list even if it's still under overhyped Hammer movies. In fact John Carpenter's The Thing may currently be the most analyzed horror movie. Even more than The Exorcist but I said "curently" because it's not always been like that.

@@ShHeMiLeRe it definitely gained more popularity over time, and honestly I think it's very deserving of the praise that gets. I don't know if it's the best horror movie ever but I would probably have to say it's my favorite remake and it's truly a classics.

Little Shop of Horrors from 1986 needs an honorable mention. Amazing special effects, great soundtrack, an all-star cast.

@That 80's Dude Nicholas as Jack Torrance is probably his best role, next would be Nathan R Jessup, then probably Robert Dupea, then Melvin Udall, then George Hanson, Followed by the joker, Then Garret Breedlove, and then maybe his campy dumbass role in Little Shop Horrors which sucked ass as a remake....

I thought the 1999 remake of House On Haunted Hill was pretty good. I like to watch that movie at least once a year.

Really happy to see the Texas chainsaw massacre on here. It's a really cool take on the classic. It doesn't try to recreate the original, it just does its own thing, and it's all the better for it.

A remake that surprised me was Child's Play. It was the perfect way to do it. I'm a fan of Chucky since he mades me hide my plushes in the closet at night for a long time.

@@bazdaniels7420 ahah I got farts that stink more than Chil's Play 3 😅 In fact it surprise me because I got low expectation and wad ready to piss on it. What I liked the most is that it was really in touch with the era. I liked the change because I've seen those original movies so many times. I did not liked the Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street remakes AT ALL. I'm not a remake guy. Lately, I've learn that they were doing an Exorcist remake and I'm ready to piss on it as I'm still hold urine I had for Child's Play remake. 😁 What did you not like about it?

I absolutely love Tom Savini's night of the living dead! I was hoping you'd mention it. Barbara is so kick ass and the ending just makes the film for me

This list is definitely missing Fede Alvarez' Evil Dead from 2013. Unless you don't consider it a remake. But it was pretty great.

Season 2 of ash vs evil dead (Starz) tv is a remake of the movie ? Timey whimey travel with xena, Mexican Kramer, and the last girl go to the cabin to replay the hits of the 80s films.

I’ve seen Evil Dead Rising at an early screening and it blew me away. It’s really really really good and needs to be seen in a theatre.

The gradual transformation in The Fly makes more sense than the original. There clearly isn't enough fly-mass to cause a drastic change, so it's DNA had to be spread out and fused with human DNA. And since it take over a month for a human body's cells to fully replace themselves, it would take that long form the transformation to go into effect.

I always thought that remake and reboot should be in different categories. Under James' definition of remake though, a reboot would just be a subset. I guess it doesn't really matter, but I would consider the Hammer films to be reboots rather than remakes. But if we start talking about the Halloween movies, they really do blur the line between remake/reboot/ and even sequel.

For me, it would be… 1. The Fly 2. The Thing 3. Dawn of the Dead All three are GREAT movies and really close for me. I have not seen the original Thing, but Fly and Dawn improve on already great originals.

Great picks ! Although I can't understand why Nosferatu the Vampyre didn't make the list. I'd put that and NotLD at #'s 1 & 2. Nosferatu is way better than the Blob or the Fly in my opinion. So is Coppola's Dracula. One more nitpick -- I don't think The Thing belongs here because it's actually a sequel, even though it got marketed as a remake I guess. If so I'd put it at #3 or 4.

A controversial number 1, but maybe you're right. I still think The Thing should be number 1. The Hammer films may have arguably milked the heck out of some of the franchises though. I am quite happy with the films that made the list. I don't know about Halloween, but everything else I still need to check out. The Blob 80's version I've recently discovered though and think it's fantastic.

There are two movies that as a child my friend and i constantly brought up in conversations or made the noises after the movie. 28 Days later we always put red Kool-Aid in our mouths and act like the infected. And we always did The grudge noise.

The turd that was IT Chapter II unfortunately ruined the goodwill that Chapter I earned. Overall, the 1990 miniseries was the superior adaption and it's the one most people will remember 30 years from now.
