A breakdown of my most challenging scenes, which I solved with pretty simple lighting setups with distinct color temperatures that come right out of fundamental lighting theory.

This is the first Video from you I see. I ve seen a lot of lighting videos from the Aputure Channel, but your scene here is so much better than anything I saw in their Channel (maybe they should use qasars haha) subscribed! ... A top down plan or master Shot of the Scene would have been nice

Not too nitpicking would love to see more contrast on the background (too flat for me) - it's just me - the light hitting the silverware on the bg kinda pulling me in... The raccoon eyes kinda gives me a diff vibe :D But overall superb thanks you for sharing!

Awesome video! For the tube light that you had positioned in the back right corner to illuminate some of the details in the stone and help shape that side of the wall... was that flagged off at all to prevent it from spilling on to the backside of the talent? And mixing with the cooler temp rim light that you set up? Or did the natural fall off from the tube just line itself up well with that front most pillar to where it didn't mix in with the foreground elements?

Good question. I don’t think we had it flagged off since it was dim enough it didn’t compete with the daylight tube, but you definitely could if it was a problem.

@@EricThayne got it! Thanks! It's a beautifully lit scene, couldn't believe the difference between the natural lighting and the final look. I'm looking forward to learning more from your videos.

Looks really nice but seems like some light soft light on the back walls could have enhanced the shot. The Aputure BC7's come in handy for things like this!

Since it is restaurant there could be some light in the background wall and near buffet counter... sorry if I'm wrong..... otherwise it's lovely 😍

Your videos would be a lot better if you had a diagram of the set up. Most youtubers on here who discuss lithing set up always have a diagram with where everything is placed, it'd be great if you could do the same as I feel confused with your rapid explanations from a single picture.

If he can do this and make a career out of it I know I can because all of his commercials look the same. No story or sound just nice shots, one after the next.

This is exactly why it works. Most filmmakers have too many different types and styles of videos in their portfolio, which leaves clients confused about what you offer. My clients, on the other hand, are never confused about what they’re going to get 😊

You are right, everyone can make it that's why he has trained many aspiring and established filmmakers on how to build a career out of it . I don't believe all his commercials looks the same he simply apply a formula that works, reverse key shots, dark to light patterns , color contrast etc. This formula has been used in countless movies and spots for years and now thanks to people like Eric we get all this info for free. He is only giving you tools so that you can go and create your own style. Regarding your comment about no story or sound have you check his site? Watch the Unesco spot great example of story and sound. Cheers!

WanderingDP explains it well. The Framework can be the same, but the lens type, framing and movement, location, set dress are always different which will make it unique . Movies and commercials follow this "framework" (upstage key, into shadows, L of the room, light/dark etc etc) because it works. Also same isn't bad. You develop a certain style and if it means a lot of your work looks the same, that's actually quite good, specially for commercials where you take less risks and just do what works. You want unique looks? Start doing music videos... or get good enough to DP a Superbowl ad... People need to drop the ego, it's bad for the creative industry. Instead of picking apart someone elses work, do it to your own and if you do not like something do it better. For instance let say you didn't like the framing or the tables around the actors but liked everything else. When its your turn to shoot something similar you can take what worked and what you liked and change up the rest. Anyway on-topic. Looks nice. In the sea of KZfaqrs who just VLOG/Gear review lighting breakdowns are good to get some basics drilled into you.

I do appreciate your work. But I think you are the only "pro" who is ALWAYS pushing "buy from me...buy from me". I understand it´s your business, but ..I don´t know. It makes me feel like dealing with a "car dealer". He is only "acting nice", to get your money.
