CINESTILL 800T night street photography in London | Rollei 35S

Part two of my street photography POV saga in London, this time using a very special 35mm film. Cinestill 800T is a very special roll coming from the motion picture film. It produces beautiful images with strong red halations of highlights and cyan/blue shadows (800T stands for 800ASA or ISO and Tungsten white balance). Walk my shoes in Piccadilly Circus, Carnaby Street, Soho and China Town for a night photo session! I hope you can get excited about this as well. A few notes below:
This area of London is famous for its night life. As tourists and locals enjoy a wide variety of pubs and restaurants, colourful lights and led panels create a very unique atmosphere. What better film than Cinestill 800T to enjoy night photography there? As it was my first time shooting this film I was quite scared, I didn't want to screw this up! Huuuge relief when I saw the scans from the lab...

Thanks for the video, get a 85B filter and you can shoot Cinestill in daytime too.

Thank you Mario! Good idea, even though I already shot cinestill 800T during the day and it definitely works also on its own. Colours get shifted a bit but it's great for blue hour for example. Keep shooting 😊

Thank you so much! I wish I had better video and audio quality but the images are some of my favourites! I also have three more videos coming but I'm still waiting for the scans 😭

What shutter speed are you using at night? I'm just assuming everything was shot at f2.8. Thank you!

Hey Owen! Mostly 1/30 or 1/15. You're right about the aperture, it was always wide open :)

What shutter speed did you use mostly? Keen to try some Cinestill 800T in my Rollei 35SE as well, love how your shots turned out!

Thanks man! I was always shooting either at 1/60 or 1/30, that was kind of the limit for hand holding it. Definitely try it out, it's great!

@M.L the focus is almost always set to infinity, there are a few shots where I estimated the distance and got away with it but if you shoot at infinity you won't have any issues 😊

@@michelefranciotta amazing, really helps out to have the 2.8 If you focus at infinity what would be the minimum distance the shot would be in focus? 30ft?

really like the theatre shot, did you keep the ISO at 800?

For sure! You can't change the ISO value because it comes with the film you're using. On film cameras you can only set aperture and shutter speed 😀

@@michelefranciotta Beautiful shots! You've got me excited to use me new-to-me Rollei 35 S! But just for the sake of understanding: could you not have set the camera to 1600 ISO and "pushed" the film one stop more (in order to get more comfortable handheld shutter speeds) for night shots? Are there downsides to doing that?

@Hic Rhodus you definitely could. Thanks for your comment, I'm glad it you found it motivating! Btw, I wanted to shoot it box speed to see how it was "out of the box". Most of the time, shooting at f 2.8, it was not problematic at all 😊
