It is a wholly owned subsidiary of AT&T Inc. and provides wireless services in the United States. AT&T Mobility is the second largest wireless carrier in the United States, with 114.5 million subscribers as of March 31, 2024.[3]

2004: Old AT&T and Cingular open up roaming as native between their networks. Three years later in early 2007, Apple's Steve Jobs would annouce the first iPhone. It was exclusive to "Cingular" in the USA until an undisclosed date (2010). The New AT&T (that we still know in 2024) formed shortly before the iPhone launched in late 2007. As such, the first iPhone never saw "Cingular" as the carrier name in the hands of users; they all got New AT&T SIMs. Look for press photos of the first iPhone. A lot of the photos have "Cingular" as the carrier name. Old AT&T and New AT&T (the company we know today) were very differently owned companies.
