Learn how to play Cinnamon Girl, as performed by Neil Young and Crazy horse released in 1969 on the Everybody Knows this is Nowhere album. A great piece of two guitar artistry between Neil Young and Danny Whitten who also sang the high harmony with Neil.
The lesson covers their two parts, and details the nuances between both of their parts that compliment each other perfectly.

This is the first song that I worked out all the parts to, and recorded on my old 4-track by myself. 2 guitars, bass, 2 voices and an old Alesis drum machine for the drum track. I forget how I mixed it down, but I fit everything into 4 tracks somehow. Yeah it was a little muddy, but 19 year old me was pretty proud of myself!

Bravo! Great lesson. Felt the thrill of learning how to make a great song sound correct. I saw Sonic Youth open for Neil and Crazy Horse in '91. Both bands were mind-blowing. If there are any Sonic Youth fans out there, you can do a passable version of "Total Trash" on the E and A strings in this tuning

You might as well play in standard tuning instead of drop tuning here in this lesson. Its the bass notes also. The whole point of the drop tuning is to use all six strings ringing in the chord shapes. Especially the three open D notes in the first position chord and the slidfing barred third, fifth and seventh positions chords. Its way thicker and fuller. The original white volume II 1969-1973 COMPLETE MUSIC Niel Young book.. shows the exact use of this drop tuning.

Great video as always Doug. On another note ( no pun) I had mentioned to you how I had revisited Axis, Bold as Love, and we both agreed we almost forgot how good it was. It had seemed to get lost between Are You Experienced, Electric Ladyland, Band Of Gypsies, and Hendrix in the West. Well, another album I have been revisiting lately is the first Eric Clapton solo album from Aug 1970. It seemed to get lost in the mix of The Bluesbreakers " Beano" album . Creams second and third album Disraeli Gears,and Wheels of Fire, the Blindfaith album, and the Layla album. Though Clapton doesn't have the thick woman tone or long sustains and firey licks. The guitar solos are masterful in their clean but out of phase in between pick up switch tone. Mixed with a little wah wah. The album has horns and back up singers. A large band. But right from the begining as in the song Slunky, till the last song Let it Rain it has masterful maj to min solos with an emphasis on economy of licks, taste and thought. Don't go from memory. One day when you have a chance listen to it with headphones and you will see or better yet hear what I mean. You don't have to do a video on it. I just want you to see how that album was much more then it first appeared to be when everyone was saying the Gibson sound was gone. But that out of phase Fender sound is unmistakeable there with no real gimmicks or pedals to hide the playing. Also I am in no way comparing Hendrix and Clapton. I love both of their music. It's like I love Pizza, but I still love Lasagna too. I just think this album is a 54 year sleeper that just get's better too. Peace.

Way cool. I play that alone using the double drop D but on 2nd and 3rd frets as D and then the intro riff there with my pinky using open 6th and 5th till I do the G. Hope that's clear. What I'm saying is I never walked up the neck and it sounded right. lol Great pickin'.. as usual - one thing.. could you by any chance record both parts singly and then post the whole song or is it maybe a copyright thing?

Gear question for you. Looks like you are threading the neck strap button through the face of your strap to compensate for one button being on the back and the other being on the side of the guitar. Is that right? I ask, because I have an Epiphone ES-339 with the same orientation and can find no other way of securing the strap without twisting it. I very much want to move the button, but like the SG, there is really no place to move it to.
@12footchain
@12footchain 20 күн бұрын
Nothing fancy about it, just connecting to the front strap button so the strap lies flat faced like that. If there's a twist in the strap to connect with the button at rear of guitar, I let that twist happen behind me. Hopexthat made sense
@MichaelReeps
@MichaelReeps 20 күн бұрын
@@12footchain Totally makes sense. Funny how none of this stuff mattered when I was younger, but now I can feel every ounce of my 339. Getting a much wider strap, like you have, and keeping it untwisted seems to matter now.

I heard, but did not see, Neil in concert last month. It was $400 for lawn seats, $20 beers and no jumbo screen so unless you pay thousand you won't see him. In order to do this song correctly you need to put your camera about 2 football fields away from yourself and charge $1000 for the lesson to capture the Neil vibe

I would never pay that kind of money for any concert. I don’t care who it is, or how much I like them.

Saw him in Toronto in the 90s with Pearl Jam and Soundgarden opening. A huge portion of the audience left after the opening acts. I walked down to the lawn and laid down on the grass (the show was on a baseball field). Neil came on and played for 3 hours. One of the best shows I ever saw.

First of all, this may just be the best comment ever! Had me rolling laughing at the last sentence. I seen him a couple times when tickets were 30 - 40 dollars. One of the concerts three of us drank so much booze, (don't remember what kind but whiskey I think) one was passed out in his seat as I was basically carrying the other guy out to the car after about the third song as I was throwing my guts up. Then the dude I carried out passed out on the hood of the car. I was disappointed about leaving and had beers listening from outside waiting for it to be over. Then the dude woke up from the hood of the car and asked "how was Neil Young?" Good times. Both the other two guys are dead now. Cheers and RIP Billy and Tim.

Too slow. Just start the video hping straight into it, then stop and explain. You wouldn't want to read 8 chapters before you get to the first plot point. Seems like an ok video but it's too slow. Also same lick as don fielders heavy metal, sounds like to me, without looking it up. Wonder which was first. Anyway.
