Thanks so much for the review Chris and Roy! Really appreciate the time and effort you put into learning this game and reviewing it. You're correct it's a big game! One thing I will add is that even though it's long, down-time is low. The action structure and flow is all about micro actions amongst the players.

Can't believe this is Roy's first Garphill game. Although I've not played any Eric Lang games so, fair enough. Looking good with the orange hair Roy. & Chris is always looking good.

Love Circadians first light, a hidden gem for me (also great solo) . This one gives me a Dune II battle for Arrakis kind of vibe. I think i ll love it.

First Light looks even more daughting on the table than this. Is it more complex of a game than Chaos Order? I just played a 6 hour game of Dune Imperium with both expansions... is it as complex as that?

@@CharlesHepburn2 never played dune with both exp so I cannot tell. But it is more complex than base Dune imperium :)

@@CharlesHepburn2 First Light is lighter than this one. I think D:I with both expansions is probably lighter than this, by sheer rules and rules exceptions.

@@CharlesHepburn2 Six hours? That's definitely a player(s) problem and not a game problem. I've never seen a game of Dune Imperium (with both expansions) go more than 2 hours, and that's playing epic mode, mind you. That being said, as others have said, First Light is definitely lighter than this, but a very different genre.

@@akaSkyWolf not a player problem… it was awesome! I had to teach the game to people who didn’t know Dune at all. We were joking around quite a bit, and one player had AP due to it being their 2nd board game they ever played. It took 6 hours to get to 12 VP in Epic mode. 4 players, started at 1 VP. I won with 13 VP. I suppose if you had experienced players with the game it would have gone faster, but I really don’t see teaching it with both expansions and playing epic mode within 2 hours (at 4 players)…. Seems like a pipe dream or a Guinness World Record.

was 'Circadians: First Light' even mentioned in passing in this video and I missed it? I thought it deserved to at least be mentioned in the intro... of having a game in the same universe as another one... so that people when looking for a game wouldn't scratch their heads and say 'huh? there's more than one circadians game?'

It’s such a different game, but they do share the same setting so you have a good point!

@@darthkt the same name and universe is enough just because people might be surprised to find another one if they like this review and go search the web for it. At least saying 'they're creating a universe of games, but they are different games' is an important comment IMO.

@@nshaw1299 Fair point! I could have at least mentioned it, especially making it more clear if people just type "Circadians" into a game store catalog. Maybe I was just upset that Garphill Games didn't take my suggestion for the name of this game - Circadians: Second Light.

A little less root-ey than root because of the shared win condition, I don't think the factions are that asymmetric, but a pretty close comparison for sure. I might also throw in either a dominant species or rurik dawn of kiev into the mix because of the unique action selection

Played this once and it has gameplay I despise most, pile-on the leader, or random last turn winner from survivor of the pile-on, or just group-think diplomacy pick a winner. I would have loved this game if it was 2 equally sized teams vs each other. No pile-on, no King making, etc.

Chris: "I applaud Garfield Games for putting the accurate duration, 2-4 hours". Is it even possible to describe a 200% timing frame/duration range as "accurate"..? 🙄

Oh absolutely! The game ranges from 2 to 5 players, so that's a very reasonable spread for the play time.

@@DTChrisYi oh, I don't disagree with you that it's reasonable. I was just wondering if accuracy in this context, of such a wide range, is really something to get applauded for ☺️

@@wishmeheaven Maybe the confusion is that I'm applauding them for being HONEST about the long play time. We see way more often companies putting in shorter play times than they really should because people will balk at a 4 hour time written on the box even if it's true. In a different publisher's hands, the box would say 90-150 minutes and it might have sold better with that "optimistic" time length.
